St. Elidyr's Church, Amroth, took for its nominated charity over Christmas 2008 the Babes-in-Arms Appeal. This is funding research into the causes of cot death in young children.
Money was raised by running a coffee morning with the inevitable raffle, a sponsored angel display on the Christmas tree in the church, Remembrance lilies during the 12 days of Christmas, and finally the New Year's Day Swim where people could sponsor anyone mad enough to take to the cold sea water on the day.
The swim was supported by Fiona Castle, widow of the late Roy Castle who started Record Breakers, and took the form of an attempt to get into the Guiness Book of Records with the most Elvis Presley 'Look-alikes' taking a swim for charity. The whole series of events has raised £2,500 for the fund.
Professor Colin Green, who heads the research team at the Northwich Institute for Scientific Research, Harrow, has agreed to come to Amroth and collect the money on the Eve of St. David's Day, tomorrow (Saturday), when there will be a short Evensong in St. Elidyr's Church at 6.30 pm, followed by the usual St. David's party in the Amroth Arms.
There will be cawl provided by Roger, and entertainment provided by Dennis Reed (alias Arnold).
Tickets, costing £6, can be purchased over the bar on the night. Please go and enjoy yourselves, and see the cheque handed over to Professor Green.
