At a recent meeting of Amroth Community Council, the following matters were discussed:
Mountain Chapel: Council was informed that the Land Registration documents for the Mountain Chapel memorial garden at Llanteg had been stored for safekeeping with solicitors. Maintenance of the garden was now in hand, and gate-posts were to be purchased to create a permanent entrance incorporating the original iron gate.
Amroth sea-front: The damaged section of sea wall at Amroth Castle had been repaired. A new noticeboard on the seaward side of the toilet block was now displaying a copy of the tide-table, and copies had also been placed in the noticeboards at the top of the slipway by Amroth Castle and at the New Inn end of the sea wall.
South Pembrokeshire Community Consultative Committee: Councillors received a report of the meeting recently held at Pater Hall, Pembroke Dock, attended by Clr. Tony Brinsden. An update on the budget for 2004/05 had been given by the police authority auditor, in which it was reported that there was a rise in costs for this period amounting to a total expenditure increase of £5.181m. This left a funding shortfall of £3.7m, which would be recovered via the Council Tax. A Band D property would be taxed at £142.65, an increase of £18.54, or 14.9 per cent, on the previous period.
After the auditor's report there had been a discussion on the future format of meetings and how to encourage young people to become involved. This was followed by a presentation by the Divisional Commander on initiatives in the Pembroke and Milford areas against youth crime, vandalism and unruly behaviour.
Public participation session: A resident of Cliff Road who attended the council meeting thanked the chairman and councillors for the chance to address them under the new ruling inviting members of the public to discuss any matters of interest during a 15 minute public participation session. Councillors heard that narrow sections of Cliff Road posed a serious danger to traffic, not helped by a large tree which was causing an obstruction and whose roots had lifted the tarmac by about three inches. Also, cyclists travelling at speed down the road were presenting a serious hazard to pedestrians. The clerk was directed to write to the county council pointing out these concerns and asking for action as a matter of urgency.
Summerhill bus shelter: Councillors were told that the bus shelter at Summerhill was in a very shabby condition and required re-painting and generally tidying up. Because the shelter was the direct responsibility of the community council, it was agreed that the council itself would see to the refurbishment.
Correspondence: Clr. Alan Davies, chairman of the community council, had been invited to attend the official opening of the new Early Years Learning Unit at Stepaside School. Regarding the vexed problem of play areas in the county, the clerk was directed to write to the county council informing them that the community council totally disagreed with its policy and abrogating for these areas, and that the problem should be sorted out.
Planning: New applications - Replacement of an existing dwelling - Sanderstead, Cliff Road (no objection).
Construction of extra bedroom and larger conservatory at Mellieha, Amroth (no objection).
Extension and alteration of dwelling to three maisonettes and one flat - Coed Mor, Amroth (objection on grounds of over-development of site, lack of car parking space, and possible intrusiveness of roofline).
Revised application for static caravan layout - Meadow House Caravan Park, Amroth (passed).
Loft conversion - 2 Brookside Villas, Amroth (passed).
Manager's/caretaker's bungalow with site office and garages - Summerhill Caravan Park (permission refused).
Change of use of land for touring caravans - Little Kings Park, Ludchurch (appeal).
Re-routing of forest access tracks - Bramble Lodge, Old Welsh Road, Stepaside, was for the purpose of planting new trees.
Donations: It was agreed to make a donation of £50 each to the following charities - Air Ambulance, Cruise (Pembrokeshire), Noah's Ark, Paul Sartori Foundation, Crossroads, and Bobby Van Scheme.
It was agreed that a computer which had been used for council business should be offered for sale to the public.
The next meeting will take place at the Parish Hall, Summerhill, on Thursday, April 22, at 7 pm.
