At the recent February meeting of Amroth Community Council, it was decided that members of the public would in future be invited to discuss any matters of interest during a 15-minute public participation session to be held during the council sitting.

Other items discussed at the meeting, which was held at the Parish Hall, Summerhill, included:

Rights of Way: The clerk was requested to write to the National Trust drawing their attention to a branch partially blocking the path from Colby Lodge top car park to Pendeilo.

Highways: The construction of a pavement at Stepaside had been delayed, while clarification was sought regarding the ownership of the road verge fronting certain properties. The dangerous pothole at Furzy Park on the Tavernspite road had now been filled in. There had been a complaint about trees overgrowing the road between Captains Pond and Llanteg Cross, and the clerk was directed to send a reminder to County Hall that they urgently needed cutting back.

Mountain Chapel memorial garden: Council discussed the matter of maintenance and grass-cutting. A letter had been received about the new entrance at the side of the burial ground, replacing the old entrance fronting the main road which had been closed at the direction of the county council because of safety concerns. It was intended that the original gate would be replaced at the side entrance.

Street lighting: There had been a response from the county council that lighting at specific sites in the Amroth community area would be considered when funds became available. Councillors were told that the road accident criterion for installing lighting was two people killed or seriously inured, or four personal injury collisions, recorded during the previous three years.

Amroth seafront: A request was made for the steps leading down to the beach to be re-edged with white paint in the interests of safety and visibility. Despite recent requests, cars were still parking in the area of the flagpoles and the county council intended to install a gate. Council was informed that the dog-waste bag bin and the 30 mph sign, which were attached to the same pole at Wisemans Bridge, had both gone missing.

Clr. David Wallace: It was intended that an inscribed bench would be placed on the old Village Hall site on Amroth front in memory of the late Clr. David Wallace.

Correspondence: A letter had been received from the former clerk to the council, Mrs. Sue Enfield, thanking councillors for the presentation of a basket of flowers.

Planning: Application for alteration to roofline at Pendeilo Leisure Park, Amroth (no objection); bungalow and granny annexe at Ludchurch (objection - outside village plan for any new buildings). Permission granted for the demolition and reconstruction of Summerhill Hall; and for a farm shop at Cwmrath. Decision deferred on a manager's/caretaker's bungalow at Summerhill Caravan Park. Notification received of an intention to re-route forest access tracks, Bramble Lodge, Old Welsh Road, Stepaside.

Any other business: The clerk was directed to write to the county council's planning department informing them of the council's strong objection to their decision not to allow the development of a new Co-op store at Kilgetty.

The next meeting will be held at the Parish Hall, Summerhill, on Thursday, March 18, at 7 pm.
