The top 50 South East Wales fund-raisers in last year's World's Biggest Coffee Morning met Tenby- born actor, Charles Dale, of Coronation Street, Paradise Heights and Belonging fame, in a special recognition event organised by Macmillan Cancer Support yesterday (Thursday).
A confirmed supporter of Macmillan, Charles Dale attended the prestigious event at Mansion House in Cardiff, together with Karen Morgan, a breast cancer survivor who was helped by Macmillan, to congratulate and thank the top 50 hosts for their hard-work.
The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan's world record-breaking event. Last year in Wales, coffee drinkers raised £275,000 by organising over 1,800 coffee mornings. This year, Macmillan is hoping to break the £300,000 barrier on Friday, September 29, by urging people to stir themselves into action and hold their very own coffee morning. The money raised will help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.
Charles Dale said: "Macmillan does an excellent job in helping people live with cancer - I know this because I've seen it at first hand with my own mum. I came along to the event to make sure that Macmillan's coffee morning hosts are given the recognition they deserve. Without their support, Macmillan would not be able to fund essential services throughout Wales. Nearly everybody I know likes a cup of coffee, so why not make your daily cup count and join the World's Biggest Coffee Morning. It really does make a difference."
Liz Cole, fund-raising manager for South East Wales, said: "We are delighted that Charles could take time out of his busy schedule to join Karen to salute our hard-working coffee morning hosts. The money they raised last year helped Macmillan be a source of practical, medical, emotional and financial support to those affected by cancer."
