Government action to stop flooding is mired in endless consultations, says South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns.

The Welsh Assembly Government has just announced a three month consultation on the draft Flood and Water Management Bill.

But Mrs. Burns, who is the Shadow Welsh Environment Minister, says she'd like to see action not words to help prevent flooding in such areas as Pleasant Valley near Amroth.

"The UK and Assembly governments promised action to combat flooding, but all we've got from ministers is yet more consultation.

"Pembrokeshire residents continue to live with the risk of flooding and we still don't have proper legislation to deal with it.

"Almost a year ago the Pitt Report called for 'urgent and fundamental changes' to the way the country prepares itself for the increased risk of flooding.

"As ministers in Cardiff and London drag their feet developments on flood plains and on areas with inadequate drainage systems are still being approved and homes across Wales remain at risk."
