CARLSON Dance Company brings its latest production 'Terminal' to the Torch Theatre tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30 pm as part of its 10th anniversary tour.

'Terminal' is the bizarre adventure of a band of misfit performers, travelling on hypothetical trains between nowhere and the great metropolises of the world perhaps Paris, perhaps New York, perhaps Berlin, perhaps here.

Inspired by Fin de Siecle European Cabaret, the work combines avant-garde experimentation with slapstick entertainment, complete with live piano accompaniment by Carlson and Torch Theatre regular James Williams (the composer behind the music from Torch Christmas musicals 'Aladdin', 'Pinocchio' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk').

This latest production confirms Carlson's reputation as one of Wales' most consistently innovative companies. In January 2002, 'Terminal' previewed at London's prestigious Palace Theatre before premiering to full houses at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.

James Tyson, Chapter's theatre programmer, commented: "Carlson Dance Company produce original life-affirming work, full of mesmerising dance, rarely equalled in the Welsh dance scene.'

Experienced choreographer-performer Emma Carlson, designer-director Sally Carlson and composer James Williams combine to make a team which is well known across Europe for its stylish and witty dance style and use of original music.

For 'Terminal', the core company is joined by some of Europe's most accomplished and distinctive performers: Belinda Neave, Jo Shapland and Bert Van Gorp.

Carlson Dance Company has enjoyed meteoric success since its formation a decade ago. It is renowned for producing work which is fresh, focused and high-powered, with dancers who mix precision and speed with the drama of human interaction. This combination of dance skills and accessible human emotions results in performances that delight both dance fans and first time audiences alike, from ages five to 95!

Tickets - priced at £6 (£4 discounts) - are available from the Torch Theatre box office (tel: 01646 695 267).

Off-stage, Carlson Dance Company run the Arts Council of Wales revenue funded Dance Blast Scheme for young people in Monmouthshire and South Wales.
