Sir,

The persistent littering of Tenby pavements with A-frame signs by the businesses of the town is possibly one of the most idiotic, so-seemed advertising promotion stunt, any right-minded business person could do.

It blocks access to the right of way of pedestrians and customers alike, young and old, mothers with baby prams, the elderly, people with sight impairment, people using walking sticks and zimmer frames and last but not least wheelchair users.

The Chamber of Trade and its members must be set apart from reality by a gap larger than the 'Grand Canyon' to call the authorities' approach 'draconian', it leaves me speechless.

The points to remember are: that the council has the right to gather up all the signs and confiscate them; that any costs incurred for removal will be charged to the owners of the signs; that the obstruction of a pavement is illegal and can result in prosecution; the single largest factor in all of this is the fact that 24 per cent of the population of Wales has an impairment or disability; the total spending power of disabled people in the UK as a whole is in excess of £80-billion pounds per year (Department of Works and Pensions).

Any sane person running a business who will wantonly obstruct access to 24 per cent of their potential customers must not want to, or need to be in business.
