Sir,
'The RNLI hands over the former lifeboat house'.
Yes, I have read it, but it left me with just one thing a bad taste! To date, I have always held the RNLI in great respect, but now I am wavering. More questions have to be put before them.
1. Every lease I have known had a cessation clause, so why in this case the RNLI was not in a position of handing the old lighthouse back to the owner, Crown Properties. Why were the RNLI in a position of having responsibility of selling or demolishing a useless building?
2. What is the background of the inspector's enquiry that put to one side the decision of the RNLI, county council, town council and National Park planners that demolition was the best option?
3. Who were the senior members of the Welsh office, presumably in conjunction with Fine and Country Estate Agents and Savills Winbourne Development Team, who were able to lay down new rules and order the 'U'-turn by all the planners?
Ivor Jenkins,
Cheshire.
