It’s been a busy week for Tenby’s fire crew around the Walled Town with two call outs already!

Ahead of tending to a fire at the Royal Lion Hotel yesterday evening, on Monday (January 22) with Storm Isha hitting the county, the Tenby crew were called to an incident at the Paxton Court building on White Lion Street, at around 4.45 pm.

Firefighters responded to one large section of lead flashing hanging from a 5th floor building over a public footpath. Crew cordoned off a safe area and utilised a turn table ladder to remove safely, before leaving the scene at 6.18 pm.

The Paxton Court property which sits alongside the town's Premier Inn, is specifically designed to provide independent living accommodation exclusively for those over 55 years of age.

The building of Georgian styled elevations which overlooks Tenby’s iconic North Beach and harbour, was completed in 2014.

However, with fresh concerns raised this week regarding the safety structure of the Royal Lion Hotel which sits opposite the development, one local who witnessed the fire crew attend Paxton Court, said that there were concerns about the top of the roof, as they could still see a large section of lead flashing flapping on the roof of Paxton Court, two days after fire crews had attended.

“If anything is going to kill someone walking by this street, it’s what is hanging off the roof of that building!” they remarked.

Responding to the claims, the House Manager at Paxton Court has since confirmed that the roof was made safe and there is 'nothing hanging off'.

“The necessary arrangements to repair the section of the leadwork damaged in the storm are underway and will be completed as soon as possible,” stated house manager Jackie Rees.
