The route into Tenby’s Walled Town was closed off for a period of time this afternoon, after an incident involving a delivery lorry and a person on a mobility scooter.

Emergency services were on the scene shortly after midday, with police closing off Upper Frog Street, High Street and White Lion Street due to the emergency incident.

The fire and ambulance service were in attendance, as the incident involved a large arctic lorry exiting Upper Frog Street, attempting to turn left down White Lion Street, and a pedestrian.

Eye witness reports suggest that a lady on a mobility scooter became ‘wedged’ against a wall - whilst the lorry (which was delivering to licensed premises within the walled town) was attempting the manoeuvre.

One person commenting on social media, remarked: “Can we stop blaming the driver? He drives the lorry around this corner every week. He kindly warned the pedestrian to not go passed and she did unfortunately.

“Whether she didn’t hear or understand we don’t know so let’s not put the blame on either of them, it was an accident.”

Another stated: “Was an elderly lady in a mobility scooter wedged between the lorry and the wall. She was at the back so think she tried to squeeze through.”

A spokesperson for the Fire Service stated: “At 12.35pm on Friday, August 21, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crew from Tenby Fire Station was mobilised to an incident at Upper Frog Street in Tenby.

“The crew responded to a road traffic collision involving one lorry and one person. The crew was involved in administering first aid to one casualty.

“This incident required a multi-agency response, with the Ambulance Service also in attendance.

“The crew left the scene at 1.45pm.”

A spokesperon for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Officers attended a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a Heavy Goods Vehicle on High Street, Tenby, at around 12.20pm today.

"The Ambulance and Fire and Rescue Services also attended and the road was closed.

"The pedestrian was taken to hospital with injuries not deemed to be life threatening or life changing.

"The road was re-opened at around 2pm.”

The incident occurred during Tenby’s pedestrianisation hours - the scheme which is run annually by Pembrokeshire Council.
