A Neyland man assaulted a pub landlord after he was refused more drinks and thrown out of the premises a court heard this week.
Twenty-nine-year-old Steven James Frazer Gow, of Picton Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting Peter John Wilson, when he appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He also admitted a charge of criminal damage after he was also accused of damaging a glass window to the value of £149.18 at the premises.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan told the court that the incident occurred at the Admiral Benbow Inn on February 11.
“Mr. Wilson the landlord refused Mr. Gow further drinks and his reaction was to throw a drink at the wall which smashed near to the television.
The defendant was asked to leave but refused and gestured towards the complainant as if he wanted to fight him.
“He was swinging both his arms and punched Mr. Wilson to the face. Mr. Gow also damaged a window of the pub,” added Ms Vaughan.
Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher told the court that there was two sides to every story and that this incident was completely out of character for the defendant.
“It is quite correct to say that he had too much to drink that night, but he doesn’t quite agree with the prosecution’s version of events.
“Mr. Gow says he was forcefully objected from the pub and that’s what riled him into committing the assault.
“He has already suffered with this with people painting him as a bad person on social media, which has caused him distress in work. Unfortunately this is what happens these days, people get judged on Facebook before matters come through to the court,” added Mr. Kelleher.
Magistrates ordered Mr. Gow to pay a total of £469.18 in fines and compensation for the offences.
