Dyfed-Powys Police is urging shoppers in supermarkets to be alert as Dyfed-Powys Police has seen a number of reported offences of distraction theft throughout the force area.

The incidents have involved offenders following victims to a till, where they then record the PIN number of the victim’s bank card. They then signal to an associate that they have got the PIN number of the card, and then another offender follows the victim to their car where they distract them. They usually do this by asking for directions and asking them to produce a map. Whilst the victim is distracted, another offender steals the bank cards. They will then withdraw money from the account or purchase goods online.

As always, the advice is to keep your PIN safe from prying eyes when paying for anything, and do not engage with anyone who tries to distract you when you get to your car.

If you become involved in a suspicious incident similar to this, or if you have any information about any similar suspicious incidents, call police on 101.
