A man who drunkenly drove to buy a packet of cigarettes whilst staying at a holiday park near Saundersfoot has been jailed after it was also discovered that he was disqualified from driving.

Thirty-five-year-old Warren Lee Wall, of Planet Street, Adamsdown, Cardiff, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court on Tuesday (March 6), to admit charges of driving whilst disqualified; and driving whilst above the prescribed limit of alcohol.

He also pleaded guilty to driving without third party insurance.

Prosecutor Dennis Davies told the court that a police officer on duty on September 21 on the A479 Wooden, spotted Mr. Wall in a Vauxhall Corsa nearby parked with the engine running and the car’s lights on.

“The officer spoke to the driver and could smell alcohol on his breath. After his arrest, it was established at the police station that Mr. Wall was already disqualified from driving,” he explained.

The defendant gave a reading of 49 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath.

His solicitor told the court that he was subject to a post-supervision sentence, after being released from jail recently, after serving 12 months behind bars for offences relating to dangerous driving, drink driving and getting behind the wheel of the vehicle whilst disqualified.

The court heard that Mr. Wall had come down to West Wales to stay at a holiday park with his girlfriend, and whilst there had ‘foolishly’ taken her car to nip out to buy some cigarettes.

Magistrates committed the defendant to prison for 16 weeks and disqualified him from driving for 36 months.

His driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points, and he was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120.
