As the crowds were heading home on Wednesday evening, Martletwy YFC Show organisers were reflecting upon an excellent day and many considered it to have been the best ever with very good gate receipts.

Many innovations have been tried since the show was first held in 1950, one of which is the special team of five award in the cattle ring which was this year won by the Limousin entry.

Another new introduction was for the champion of champions in the beef sector, open to all of this season’s local show winners across south and west Wales, which was won by a 31-month-old in calf Charolais heifer from Huw Jones.

Sheep numbers were probably an all time high, with Beltex entries from Ioan Jones winning the day.

The final line up for the champion horse or pony was not all that straight forward for the judge, local MP Simon Hart, who chose the mini Working Hunter Pony, Limerick Lad, ridden by Kizzie Lucas ahead of Joyce Canton’s Children’s Riding Pony entry with Olivia, seven, in the saddle.
