Ysie White from Tenby Bowling Club has become the Welsh Women’s National Singles Champion at Llandrindod Wells Bowls Club.
With the tournament taking place on August 14, Ysie had only booked the morning off work, not expecting to reach the semi final against a previous winner Emma Gittins of Berriew BC as singles isn’t her favourite discipline, but Ysie amazed herself and played some outstanding bowls to get across the line into the final, winning 21-18.

Thankfully her boss saw the funny side, when she broke the news that she was in the final and wouldn’t be making it back to work that afternoon!
Ysie went on to play the final against her best friend and Welsh International teammate Sara Nicholls of Port Talbot Ladies. It was a brilliant game for the crowds, but there was nothing stopping Ysie as she took a comfortable lead and didn’t look back with the final result of 21-8.
The National Singles title is the biggest competition in Wales anyone can win and Ysie is the first member to achieve this at Tenby Bowling Club - an incredible achievement for the Club and County.

Following this fantastic achievement, Ysie will go onto represent Wales at the 2026 British Isles Singles and World Champion of Champions.
Meanwhile, Ysie and Sara have also been selected to represent Wales together at the 2025 Hong Kong Classic invitational pairs in November this year.

18 members of Tenby Bowling Club qualified for National Finals this year, in 11 various disciplines which is an incredible achievement in itself. There were some extremely close games and tough results with fine margins throughout.
Paul Diment reached five semi-finals with his teammates - mixed pairs with Ysie, men’s pairs with Ryan Thomas, men’s triples with John Roberts and Ashley Hooper, the Carruthers Shield with Tenby and County Championship with Pembrokeshire.
