A young footballer from Tenby has been nominated for an 'Apprentice of the Year Award' in his first year with Cardiff City FC.

Dylan Rees began this season as the first of a two-year apprenticeship with the Premier League club, playing in the Professional Development League against the likes of Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.

The 17-year-old started playing football when he was seven and was selected to join up with Cardiff City's development centre in Carmarthen once a week when he was eight whilst still playing for Tenby and the county.

Dylan, who moved to the Welsh capital in June, was nominated by Cardiff City's education manager Stephen Ellis, as he achieved all of his GCSEs with As in English, Science, History, RE and PE, Bs in Maths, Welsh, English Literature and English Language, a Pass in Applied Business and Merit in CiDA whilst travelling up to 1,000 miles per week for training.

The Quality Skills Alliance (QSA) Annual Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the success of the QSA's standout apprentices from over the past year.

The awards evening, which will be held at Cardiff's Wales Millennium Centre, on Wednesday, February 12, will attract 250 guests, including partners and providers from the QSA, along with representatives from government, education and the business community of Wales and beyond.
