Tenby United

Youth 58 pts.

Haverfordwest Youth 0

The Wales v Argentina Autumn International meant there were no senior games on Saturday, but the Tenby United Youth team put on a fine display of open running rugby at Heywood Lane.

The plan was for the match to kick-off at 12.30 pm, but when a message from the would-be referee came through to say that he was unable to make it, it meant that both sides who were all on the pitch warmed up and ready to go, were without a man in the middle.

After many a phone call from the Seasiders' management trying to find a last-minute replacement, local veteran WRU referee Martyn Williams stepped in to officiate the eagerly-awaited encounter.

Straight from the off, it was clear that the young United were keen to impress the large crowd that had gathered to watch the boys who will soon be lacing up their boots as senior Seasiders.

With United touching down for the first try of the match within two minutes of play and scoring another two within five minutes, it was going to be a long afternoon for the visitors, who were all at the young end of the youth team age range.

All of the Tenby side had fine games, with the pack working well at the scrum and lineout as well as the back row led by skipper Marcus Reid, ensuring half-backs Ed James at nine and Ben Roberts at 10 could get the ball moving and the Seasiders backline were causing the Blues big problems.

The combination of solid scrummaging led from the front by props John Carroll and Ethan Morgan and excellent off-the-top ball from Reid and Co. meant that Roberts was able to orchestrate the demolition of their guests like a good outside-half should.

He did this all afternoon in text-book fashion, putting in a fine afternoon's work and, whether it be with ball in hand or from his tactical kicking, he put his side in the right areas of the field, passing and kicking at the right time to be able to take the game away from the Blues.

United showed that they are developing into a strong all-round squad by doing well and outgunning their opponents in all areas, with forwards Olli Parsons and Carroll, along with his front row partners, all running well, not only with ball in hand, but in their supportive roles too.

Tenby United crossed the whitewash nine times and the scores came courtesy of a brace apiece from Jordan Asparrassa and Bronsac Burley, along with Ed James, Connor Ennis, Ivan Lesnianski, Luke Hartland and Ryan Hill, who all ran in tries to go with the efforts of Hartland, who managed five conversions and a penalty to add to the tally.

The Tenby Youth side ran out comfortable winners, ending the game after scoring 58 points with no reply.

The Seasiders Youth train every Monday and Thursday evenings at Heywood Lane, starting at 7 pm.

All new players of all abilities are welcome, so if you are aged between 16 and 19 and are interested in playing rugby, please come along to training.
