Sunday, April 1, saw the Mayor of Whitland, Clr. Mrs. Vivienne Morris, bowling the first bowl of the season at Whitland Bowling Club.

Members of the club have had a busy winter programme of re-decorating the clubhouse inside and out in preparation for the first of two very busy years.

The final job inside was the laying of the new flooring, supplied and installed by one of the club sponsors, Emyr James Flooring.

The committee would like to express their thanks to all those members who have given their time over the winter to carry out these works.

The winter season has seen a curry night, rent-a-table and a country and western evening at the clubhouse, together with the monthly Sunday lunch programme. These lunches were again well-supported by our own members, together with other club members and many members of the public. The kitchen staff would like to thank all these people for supporting them and making them so successful.

The club would like to congratulate two of their junior members, Katie Thomas and Charlie Morse, on their very successful first indoor season at Heatherton.

They both reached semi-finals in the junior Welsh competitions, with Katie succeeding as part of the Under 16s Welsh triple, to become champions.

This year sees Colin Wynn as county president which means the club will be hosting many extra games this season. We hope as many of you as possible will support our county players for these games to hopefully have another successful season.

Due to having the presidency, the club will also host all semi-final & final rounds of the men's county competitions, the later being held on Saturday, July 14, and is open to everyone to come along and support the day.

Cally Jones is senior vice-president of the WWLBA which means Whitland will host the county semi-finals in August.

Tomorrow (Saturday) sees WBC playing host to Carmarthen BC in a pre-season match and will then travel to Newquay on Saturday, April 21.

Both men and ladies will travel to Tenby on Saturday, April 28, for the first league game of the season.
