Welsh footballing legend Joe Ledley was one of the special guests at Tenby’s Ysgol Greenhill, alongside former pupil Archie Hughes of the Scarlets to officially open a new 3G pitch at the secondary school.
Cymru Football Foundation’s ‘Fit-For-Future Facilities Programme’ supported the development of the new 3G pitch at Greenhill School; with Pembrokeshire Leisure successfully securing a £407,000 grant to replace the old astro turf pitch with a new 3G facility that will enhance the provision for both the school and community clubs.
Pupils at the school got a taster by enjoying the first action on the pitch on Friday, May 23, before the half-term holidays.

A spokesperson for Ysgol Greenhill said: “It is an amazing addition for the school and community. Thanks to special guests Joe Ledley and former pupil Archie Hughes Scarlets for joining us; and thanks to everyone involved.”
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services Cllr Rhys Sinnett said last year when the project was confirmed: “This project will play a significant role in ensuring that Pembrokeshire can continue to provide first class facilities across the county.
“The collaboration led by Pembrokeshire County Council’s leisure section and incorporating the Cymru Football Foundation, Sport Wales, Greenhill School and the community clubs will provide us with a fantastic facility for everyone.”
County councillor for Tenby’s north ward, Cllr Michael Williams said: “It’s wonderful to see the installation of this new pitch, the result of several years extremely hard work by officers of PCC.
“This exceptional facility was delivered by a superb team, led by Gary Nicholas, hugely assisted by Anthony Price, project manager, Emma Devonald, and Parry Lloyd, clerk of works.
“They have worked extremely hard succeeding in bringing the project in on budget despite considerable difficulties.
“These officers should be thanked and congratulated for bringing this project to fruition. Thanks to them all,” he added.
Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Senedd Member, Sam Kurtz shared: “A fantastic day in Tenby last week as we celebrated the official opening of the brand-new 3G football pitch at YG Ysgol Greenhill!
“This state-of-the-art facility is a real game-changer for the school and the wider community.
“It provides a high-quality, all-weather space for students and local teams to train, play, and thrive, whatever the season.
“Huge credit to everyone who made this project possible, from the school leadership and local partners to the coaches and young athletes who’ll bring the pitch to life.
“Cymru Football Foundation and Pembrokeshire County Council investment in grassroots sport is investment in healthier, stronger communities - and this new 3G is a brilliant step forward. I look forward to seeing this pitch used and enjoyed for years to come.”
