(after 17 overs)

Interestingly poised with Carew 96-2, chasing a Water Orton total of 238-7 scored in the allotted 40 overs, the heavens opened and Sunday's Village Cup clash had to be abandoned.

When the visitors started their innings, two early wickets for left arm paceman Scott Helmich resulted in Water Orton being reduced to 9-2.

Skipper Ed Harries and Paul Bedford dug in to stage a recovery. The pair added an invaluable 160 for the third wicket, before the partnership ended when Bedford was caught by Carew skipper Robert Hicks off the bowling of Rhys Davies for 69, including four fours and two sixes.

Harries went on to score 69 and received support from Grant Roscorla, in a lively knock of 24 including three sixes in keeping with his quick scoring reputation.

Scott Helmich, Rhys Davies and Tim Hicks each took a brace of wickets for Carew.

The Pembrokeshire League team gave a good account of themselves against Birmingham League opposition and the early order made useful contributions to the total.

The winners of the replay will be home to Worcestershire champions Bretforton to contest a place in the last eight of the competition.
