Trefloyne Manor Seniors v Haverfordwest Seniors

Spring was in the air, and in the step of the seniors at Trefloyne Manor, the chance to prove their mettle against teams from other clubs in the area. First on the calendar were Haverfordwest, and on a grey but dry Thursday, April 2, the season commenced.

Leading off of the first were this year's captain, Jack Zeraschi, partnered by Dennis Holloway, playing Haverfordwest captain, Keith Tuson and Pradesh Kanse. Trefloyne took an early lead winning the first two holes, and although Haverfordwest pulled one back, the home pair won three in a row to lead four up after nine. Two more wins on the next two holes put the home pair in a strong position, six up with seven to play, but even though the away pair managed to win the next two holes, a win on the 15th gave Trefloyne a five and three win.

Next off were Pat Casement and Trevor Lewis, playing Vernon Harris and Mike Robinson. This was a tight match with the lead going both ways over the first nine. It was the same story on the back nine, until Trevor and Pat won the 16th and 17th holes to record a two up win.

Vice-captain Mike Allen with Bob Forrest were to play Clive Frankton and Ray Woodason next. After a level start, Mike and Bob raced into a four hole lead after eight holes. A win on the ninth gave some hope to Clive and Ray, but it was short lived. Three more wins in five holes gave the home pair a six and four win.

Steve Jones was joined by John Richards in the next game, to play Steve Lewis and Brad Morse. This was a close game over the front nine with the Trefloyne pair leading by one at the half way mark. It was a different story on the back nine with Steve and John winning four of the next five holes to win five and four.

Bob Burks and Graham Harrison played Dick Cross and Dave Phipps next. This must have been a real to and fro game, and even though Bob birdied two of the par threes, Dick and Dave battled to the end for a half.

Another close game concerned John Perrott and Graham Willcocks, who played Ags Kalvik and Roy Taylor. This also ended all-square after the 18 holes.

Next, John Drury and John Hughes played John James and Phil Woodcock. The two Johns battled manfully against a pair of seasoned handicappers in John and Phil. Two down at the turn, they could make no headway going down four and two.

Wayne Connett and Glyn Latcham teamed up to play Alun Lloyd and Jim Morgan. This was another close game with nothing in it. Glyn and Wayne eventually coming out on top, for a two and one win.

Finally, Derek Jones partnered Keith Hubbard, against James Griffiths and Micky Dunthorne. The Trefloyne pair took what looked a comfortable two hole lead into the back nine, but were pulled back to all-square when the away pair won the 12th and 13th. However, wins on 15 and 16 gave Derek and Keith a two hole lead with two to play, and a half on the next was enough to give them a two and one win.

Final result, a seven to two win for Trefloyne.
