Last Friday saw the county's best juniors take to the course for the final Order of Merit event of the year. With eight clubs being represented from all over the county, the day promised to be packed full of talented young golfers pitting their skills against the tough Manor course. With a brisk north-westerly breeze and the course firming up from the recent wet weather, Junior captain and Welsh international Billy Truman got the day underway. The day was broken down into four categories enabling golfers of all abilities and ages to get involved - white box medal (20 and below handicap), yellow box stableford (21-28 handicap), yellow box stableford (29-plus handicap), red box medal. Trefloyne, although with a great deal of their first team players away on holiday, were proudly represented, with Billy taking second in the gross, Max Brindley taking the yellow stableford and yellow longest drive and Tom Wright, in his first open competition, taking second in the yellow stableford. Following play, Junior captain Billy was on hand to present the prizes to his fellow competitors, with everyone gathering on the terrace for a fantastic lunch and prize-giving. Head professional Oliver Duckett congratulated all those who took part and made special thank yous to the green staff, catering staff and junior organisers. He concluded by thanking all the parents for their continued support, both enabling their juniors to get to and from events and helping with the running of the sections at their respective clubs; a sentiment echoed by all in attendance. Everyone at Trefloyne Manor would like to thank the competitors for attending, for their fantastic etiquette throughout the day and for the spirit in which the tournament was played. We look forward to welcoming you back next year.
