Seniors round-up
On July 11, the senior team visited St. Davids, only six pairs were needed, once again St. Davids could not raise a full team. Although it was a lovely day, there were banks of sea mist moving along Whitesands Bay, luckily, it did not reach the course even though it was in need of a good watering. The greens were brown and solid, many approach shots ended at the back of the green, especially from the Trefloyne lads!
Teeing off first were Darrell Jones and Jack Zeraschi with Jeff Davies and Ervil Evans. A birdie from Jack on the par three fourth boded well for Trefloyne but, the home pair were not perturbed and took the game 2/1, Darrell reckoned he had to give too many shots!
Following were Pat Casement and Trevor Lewis against Ken Davies and Luke Lewis, a very close encounter which ended in a win by Ken and Luke by one hole.
The third game proved to be another nailbiter. Dennis Holloway and Wyn Hopkins could not shake off Malcolm Phillips and Tony Harper and had to settle for a draw.
Next away were Glyn Latcham and Wayne Connett with Joe Garner and Dave Heighway. Again it was nip and tuck all the way, however, this time it was the visitors who took the honours, one up.
Dave Crowley and Stuart Mills were next away taking on Richard Mayer and John Griffiths. Once more, the game was well-contested, neither pair able to hold any advantage, coming in all-square.
Last on the tee were Derek Jones and Roger Woodward against Ian Gregson and Robin Daly. As with the previous five games, the result could have gone either way, unfortunately it did not go to Derek and Roger, they were one down at the finish to give St. Davids a 4/2 win, sweet revenge for their drubbing at Trefloyne.
On July 18, it was another away match, this time at Derllys Court. A very hot day, more scorched grass and plenty of run on the fairways, the greens however were rather slow as the grass had not been cut too short.
First to the tee were Darrell Jones and John James against Chris Palmer and Dave Norman. A game that was won and lost on the greens, Darrell had several puts that left the ball on the rim of the hole, John too had chances to either win or half but did not find the pot. Meanwhile, the opposition rarely missed a put and one or other parred or birdied every hole. Consequently, the result was never in doubt and ended on the 14th, 5/4 to Chris and Dave.
Second pair were Bob Burks and Graham Harrison taking on John Hanley and Delme Williams. This was a tight game that ended in favour of the home pair, one up.
Third pairing was Derek Jones and Stuart Mills vying with Roger Horsfall and Ian Robertson. Despite good play from Derek and Stuart, they found the home pair playing slightly better and went down 3/2.
Next came Pat Casement and Trevor Lewis against Ken Morris and Dilwyn Davies. What a result for Pat and Trevor, six up and five to play, well played.
Fifth on the tee were Malcolm Ruff and Glyn Jones with Phil Jones and Jeff Thomas. Glyn made good use of his 11 shots, but could not quite overcome the home advantage and lost 2/1.
They were followed by Barry Wood and Bob Simpson against Wynne Evans and Phil Rogers. Again a close encounter, but this time the result went in favour of Trefloyne, 2/1.
Due to a player missing, Graham Longster had to take on John Hendue and Frank Wride singlehanded. It was a nip and tuck contest with Graham holding on well, but finally lost 2/1.
Last to the tee were Jack Zeraschi and Dave Crowley against Tommy Priest and Idwal Thomas. Jack and Dave gelled very well and finished the game at the 15th, being four up, some consolation for Trefloyne, but still a 5/3 win for Derllys Court.
Thanks to the catering staff for a superb meal.
