Caravan Cup

The end of season Caravan Cup took place last Saturday in bright but breezy conditions at Trefloyne Manor.

A strong field representing six local sites took part, all competing to be crowned champions.

In the indivdual event (18-hole stableford), the winner was Jack Lawrence with a fantastic score of 39 points. Second was Pete Mazurack with 37 and third Vernon Lawrence with 36. This resulted in a clean sweep for Rumbleway Caravan Park in New Hedges and, combined with their fourth score of 35, they reclaimed the title with a record team score of 112 points.

Following golf, the players gathered in the Manor House for dinner and presentation. Lady captain Ann Morgan was on hand to present the prizes along with assistant professional James Maxwell.

Several teams have already expressed an interest in next year's event, which will be held in April. If you are a caravan or holiday home owner and are inreseted in entering, please call Oliver in the Pro-Shop on 01834 845639.

Seniors

The final match of this season was a rearranged fixture with Derllys Court GC. On the original day, the weather was a little inclement and their captain decided to depart with his team. Half-an-hour later, the rain had ceased and we enjoyed a dry round.

Now to the rearranged date, wet weather gear was in general use and the game went ahead. Only seven pairs were available and the result was a 6-1 victory for Trefloyne.

Captain Pat Casement and Keith Warmington set the tone with a 6 and 5 win over Chris Palmer and Peter Jones.

Also with this margin was Graham Harrison and Bob Burke's win against Clive Jones and Reg Powell.

Keeping on the pressure were Glyn Latcham and Dave Crowley. Keen to reach the 19th, they proved too strong for Brian Newcombe and Winston John, winning by 5 and 3.

Two more pairs had 4 and 3 wins, Wayne Connett and Les James against Phil Jones and Phil Rogers and Dennis Holloway with Jack Zeraschi against Wynne Evans and Derrick Davies.

A close game between Derek Jones and John James versus Merrion Evans and Roy Gallop ended with another win for Trefloyne, 2 and 1. Derek was thinking he would need to borrow some balls after losing four in four holes!

Finally, the one win for the visitors, the combination of Jeff Thomas and Ian Robertson pipped Darrell Jones and Rod Haynes on the 18th, a very good game.

The previous match, against Carmarthen GC, began half-an-hour earlier than expected. It was a bit chaotic having to reorganise the pairings and there was no team sheet for the opposing team. Of the eight games, Trefloyne won two and halved one. A fine carvery meal afterwards put some spirit back in the team!

Brian Anderson Memorial Cup

Sunday, September 23, saw the first competition for the Brian Anderson Memorial Cup

Due to the cold winds and rain that came just before the draw was made, a decision to change the four ball better ball competition from an 18-hole to a nine-hole event was taken - thankfully for me, because anyone who knows me, knows how much of a challenge I find Trefloyne. And this day was no exception, my golf had its ups and downs, and I would like to thank my playing partner, Thomas Davies, who made it possible for us to come in with 13 points - well done Thomas, you showed great promise, keep it up.

Entry money amounted to £60 and this all goes to the Junior Academy.

A huge thank you must go to all the golfers who signed up and turned up.

Eighteen points won it, and thanks to Billy the winners were Meurig Evans and Billy Truman. In second place were Ann Dassen and Morgan Duckett with 17 points.
