Maesteg Centenary Pro-Am: On Sunday, three Trefloyne juniors, George Taylor, Ben Palin and Jack Parkinson set off with assistant PGA professional, James Maxwell, to play in the Maesteg Centenary Pro-Am.

Nerves on the first tee were high as each junior was introduced, with enthusiastic applause from the spectactors, followed by silence as they awaited their shots.

The atmosphere was made more electric with the appearance of Welsh golf star and Ryder Cup hopeful, Rhys Davies, who was playing in the day's event.

Ben Palin remarked how only the week before he had been playing as Rhys Davies on the Tiger Woods 2012 computer game, and there he was now actually watching him tee-off.

All three juniors did themselves proud as they hit wonderful opening tee shots, walking off the first tee with a smile.

The team mixed and matched well throughout the round and even a heavy 20-minute downpour could not stop the nett birdies.

Jack Parkinson took a huge liking to the halfway hut, as a pulled tee shot on number nine went straight through the windscreen of a parked buggy.

Two more yards and he would have had a direct hit on the halfway hut itself.

The Maesteg captain found Jack's shot particularly amusing and watched, impressed, as Jack, unfazed, went on to make a score that counted on the hole for the team.

Crowds were out in force to watch Rhys Davies and a fantastic seven other European Tour players, resulting in the boys hitting a number of shots in front of a large gallery of fans.

Maesteg was in beautiful condition, with the sun shining for long periods making it ideal for golf.

George Taylor especially enjoyed the last hole as he holed his chip from off the green to a big cheer from people watching.

The team's total for the day was a very good seven under par 63, with James Maxwell shooting 67 in the individual Pro event to finish tied sixth in the best field of the year.

It was a great day - the juniors were a credit to themselves, their families and their club. A huge thank you must go to the Trefloyne Junior Academy for sponsoring the team entry and to Celvac Tenby for providing transport.

Junior Academy

Thanks must go to the family of the late Brian Anderson for the donation received in memory of Brian for the Trefloyne Junior Academy.

The following people very kindly donated: Gerald John, Ann Dassen, Barry and Heather Thorne, Sue and Mark Ensor, Sarah and Gareth Knight, Gwyn, Caddy Sophie and Boys, Tony and Carolyn Dinan and family, Dorothy, Diana and Dennis, Mrs. S. Harries and the Friends of East Park Care Centre.

Brian was a big supporter of junior golf at Trefloyne and the money will go to support junior golf development throughout the club.

The Brian Anderson Memorial Trophy will also be played on Sunday, September 23. It's an adult and junior competition, with all funds being donated to the Junior Academy, and tee times are now available in the Pro Shop.

Junior Open Day

Sunday saw the rearranged Junior Open take place at Trefloyne.

It was a mostly dry day for the competitors, and with the first tee time being 8.30 am, it meant an early start for the golf clubs who had travelled from far away to compete on the day; a big thank you to all those who came.

There were four different competitions to accommodate a range of playing abilities, two medal rounds, a Stableford and a flag competition for those just starting out.

White tee medal winners - 1. A. Greville, 2. B. Thomas, 3. R. Skinner; red tee medal winners - 1. L. Davies, 2. N. Greville; yellow tee stableford winners - 1. E. Staines, 2. O. McEvoy, 3. T. Davies; blue tee 54-shot flag winners - 1. K. Tran (Trefloyne), 2. O. Palin (Trefloyne), 3. N. Davies (Trefloyne); lowest gross - A. Greville; longest drive winners - O.Rumble, E. Staines and L. Davies; nearest the pin winner - K.Protheroe.

A huge thank you to Oliver Duckett, Trefloyne head PGA professional, for sorting out the running of the day, which was incredibly difficult when some players failed to turn up for team times - a shame because they missed out on a great day.

Many thanks to all the Trefloyne team, from the greenkeepers and pro shop staff to the kitchen and bar staff, you all worked hard to make the day great.

There was some great golf played on a long course with some difficult holes, so well done to all the juniors.

A big thank you must go to Trefloyne Junior organiser Sue Ensor for all her hard work and dedication to the Trefloyne Junior Section.

Last thank you must go to all the members who gave up their Sunday morning competiton so that the Junior Open could be played.
