Playing a medal round on a links course after a good growing week is never easy. Make that medal round into a foursomes event and it becomes even harder! Add to that a strong prevailing wind and it is no wonder that three pairs handed in non-returns last Sunday.
The Mathias Thomas Trophy is steeped in Tenby history, and is the only medal cup played for in the Mixed calendar. Even so, there was a good turnout of 20 couples, and the weather stayed dry.
The difficulty of the course was shown in the twos report. Only one two was recorded on the sixth by Rhys and Kimberly Davies. Well done to them.
In fourth place was the pairing of Bev Owen and Andrew Morton with a nett 77. Third were Laura McQueen and David T. Morgan (nett 76), second were former winners of the trophy (twice) on nett 75, Ros and Paul Jenkins. But the well-deserved winners with a super nett 71 were Bethan and Jeremy Morris. With only eight strokes received that was an incredible score on the day.
There were three bag draws: Tony Morris and Olivia Bradbury, Ros and Paul Jenkins, and Gillian Roberts and John Ross being the lucky winners.
The next mixed event is to start Open Week on Sunday, June 10, then the Sam Ackerman Trophy on the evening of June 29, which is a draw for partners. This is always a very popular event played as near as possible to the longest day. This year booking will be online from June 1 and the draw will then be published.
Please can we have more men putting their names down for this one as it is another prestigious trophy? We are hoping to have a buffet for all members that evening. Tickets will be on sale in the Pro Shop and behind the bar.
