Narberth made another fruitless visit to the Parc Elias ground in Colwyn Bay after crashing to a thumping 60-7 away defeat.

The puzzling factor is the stark contrast between the home form shown by the Otters this season and the often below par performances in away matches.

Very often the squads have a similar look, but the results and performances in away matches bear no resemblance at all to the way that the Otters play at the Lewis Lloyd ground.

The Gogs took control quickly after scoring three tries in the first 25 minutes. Kevin Davies got the touchdown for the first from a driving maul and then wing Huw Grundy scored in the corner and followed it up with a 50-metre run for his second try, which was converted by fly-half James Lang.

A penalty by Lang on the stroke of half-time gave the Gogs a commanding lead of 20 points.

In the second half, RGC pressed home their advantage with six tries.

The first came from Andy Baston following a sprint half the length of the pitch, before lively scrum-half Josh Leach crossed the line next.

Some good work by the Narberth pack drove the Gogs backwards and prop Sean Lloyd scored a try which was converted by fly-half Ianto Griffiths.

The Gogs started to prise open the Narberth defence more frequently and ran in four further tries, with both Kevin Davies and Josh Leach crossing for their second, plus tries from James Lang and replacement Evan Yardley.

Five of the second half tries were converted by James Lang and one by Lewis Barker with the final kick of the match.

Commenting after the match, Narberth team management spokesman, Robert Lewis, said: "Obviously, we are disappointed with the performance today. We struggled a little in the scrums, held our own in the lineouts, but RGC had a much stronger team than the team which played in Narberth earlier in the season.

"There were Ospreys and Bath players in the side, as well as three players from last season's Welsh under 20 team.

"Behind the scrum, they had a very speedy back division and made the most of a big wide pitch in using the backs, especially in the second half.

"Although we leaked a few tries, our first half defence was very good.

"We needed to get back into the game quickly in the second half, but RGC scored two quick tries, which was a big setback, and we were unable to make much headway against a very good side."
