After persistent rain all day the weather finally broke for Tuesday’s mid-week dinghy race on Tuesday, July 18, with the winds easing as forecast and the slightest glimpse of blue sky.
Race Officer Jon Nuttall set a port triangle close in to keep the six boat fleet together, which included a welcome return of the Laser youth fleet.
At the start the lone Osprey crossed early and had to come back while the rest of the fleet headed upwind. Remnants of a South Easterly swell made for some interesting upwind surfing and the downwind legs were great fun.
After three laps the fleet had settled down until the final lap when the skies blackened, the rain returned with great vengeance and the wind jumped up towards a force 7 with everyone blasting over the finish line!
There were a few swims but everyone made it round safe and sound and came ashore with huge smiles.
Resuts: 1st Scorpion Peter and Igor, 2nd Osprey Dan and Tim, 3rd Ilca4 - Nina, 5th Ilca4 - Amelia, 5th Ilca4 - Noah, 6th RS600 Steve.
The weather put paid to Saturday’s racing again!
