The first Tennis Pembrokeshire League Tournament of the season took place at Pembroke Leisure Centre last Saturday in glorious sunshine. The junior tournament is an annual event for budding tennis players from Tenby, Pembroke and Haverfordwest Tennis Clubs. The five categories cover an age range from eight-18 and it was wonderful to see some new players competing in their first tournament, as well as familiar faces moving up to higher levels and witnessing their tennis skills develop. The atmosphere was terrific with a mixture of excitement, some nerves and plenty of determination too and spectators were entertained with some excellent tennis. "It was really lovely to see all the courts filled with children enjoying playing tennis," said organiser Alison Lewis. "The standard was amazing and great to watch and one thing that particularly impressed me was the fantastic show of sportsmanship across all ages, which is so important. "I think it was an enjoyable day for everyone and I would like to thank the volunteer umpires whose help is invaluable." Tenby Tennis Club played some excellent games, with several players competing for the first time and all acquitting themselves very well indeed. The teams were: orange team - Hope Yeates, Nel Allen, Olwen Evans, Harry Malone; green team - Finlay Sanders, Finley Guy, Cian Rogers, Seren Allen; U12 team - Joe Ravenscroft, Alex Orchard; U14 team - Ben Holmes, Talfan Jenkins; U16 team - Richard Sleight. The results of the tournament were: Orange (eight and under): 1. Haverfordwest, 2. Pembroke, 3. Tenby. Green (10 and under): 1. Haverfordwest, 2. Tenby, 3. Pembroke; U12: 1. Pembroke, 2. Haverfordwest, 3. Tenby; U14: 1. Haverfordwest, 2. Tenby U16: 1. Haverfordwest, 2. Tenby.
