Once again two local teams for Tenderfoot competed at the Welsh Disabled Sports Team Championships held at the Newport International Sports Village last Sunday, creditably coming third following a full day of competitions, wining three of the 11 competitions, which alongside the two wins by the teams from Fishguard meant that nearly half the competitions were won by Pembrokeshire teams.
Captain for the Tenderfoot team George MacCreath (Redberth) set the standard for the day being top scorer in the Target Golf, along with fellow competitors Marion Haymer (Broadmoor) and Daniel Pullen (Rosemarket). The teams also won the Table Tennis, with both team members James Dash (Narberth) and Lynsey McCarthy (Milford Haven) contesting the final and team captain for Tenderfoot Too Simon Woolley (Pentlepoir) along with Sam MacCreath (Redberth) and Kimberley Woolley (Kilgetty).
The team also achieved second place in Boccia thanks to husband and wife pairing John and Angie Richards (Broad Haven) together with Marion Haymer, with a further second place in the Basketball Shoot-out for Jonathan Hubbard (Kilgetty), George MacCreath and James Dash.
Other notable achievements came from Darren Briggs (Milford Haven), Jack Wood (Rosemarket) and Geraint Lewis (Pentlepoir) in the Weightlifting, Wayne Llewellyn (Llandissilio) in the Swimming and brothers David and Gareth Phillips (Pentlepoir) also in the Table Tennis.
To cap off another successful championship for the Tenderfoot teams, Sam MacCreath was awarded the Sports Personality, which he proudly displayed to all in the hall.
The Tenderfoot teams are solely sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Saundersfoot and Tenby, with assistance in transporting of competitors from the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland. Forty-five travelled up on the day to support the teams which included a contingent from the Wisemans Bridge Rowing Club who gave competitors the opportunity of using their static rowing machines adapted for disabled usage.
Team managers, Rotarians Charles Hopkinson and Jim Ball, of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot, were pleased with how all the competitors had performed and particularly with the team spirit, not only on the day, but throughout the year of training.
Tenderfoot train at the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, on the last Friday of each month where new competitors are welcomed. Further information about Tenderfoot is available from Rotarian Charles Hopkinson on (01834) 813433.
