A group of junior Tenby sailors had the surprise of their lives at the last club night of the season – when they were joined by a group of dolphins swimming off the West Wales coast. And it’s on YouTube! Scroll down for the RYA Cymru Wales video.
Dinghy Racing
The racing fleet have now started the Frostbite series of two races every Sunday.
After the torrential rain and strong gusty winds at the start of the weekend, the sailors were treated to a very pleasant relatively sedate force 3 to 4 for the two races on Sunday.
Three Ospreys took to the water to battle it out and test their gear before decamping to TATA Steel Sailing Club Regatta being held this weekend, October 20 and 21.
The winners in the first race were Daniel Jackson and Chris Mackay, with second going to Mike Stace and Deanna Morten and third John McKellar and Lucas Bossevain.
In race two, the conditions were better and it is even rumoured that Dan Jackson even enjoyed himself with his Osprey being able to point higher into the wind that bit better. However, all in the race order repeated itself from race one.
Junior Sailing
The juniors’ end of season party was held last Wednesday. There was an excellent turnout, with over 30 youngsters accompanied by instructors, helpers and parents. Food was first served, including the ever-popular chocolate fountain.
Howard then showed a video he had put together which was a compilation of photos and videos taken of the junior training sessions this season. The video illustrated the excellent weather this summer and also that the youngsters really seemed to be enjoying their sailing, even when righting their capsized boat!
Blake then read out the names of those who had gained RYA Stage certificates. They were as follows:
Alistair’s Group - Lara and Daisy Whitfield, Lola Grey stages 1, 2, 3, also Saffron Owen stage 3, Rosie Wasson stage 2, 3, Sam Prestwich and Anais Webb, Tommy Mottram, Jude Williams Stage 1, 2.
Blake’s Group - Louis Rapi, Amelia Nuttall, Stanley Barker, Matthew Shaw, Freya Bhattacherjee stage 1 and 2.
