Dinghy Racing - Race officer Alistair Lindsay set a port course for the Tuesday (July 4) evening race in a SW breeze, starting at 7 pm near Monkstone, and a windward mark by St Catherine’s.

First away were the Ospreys of Dave and Maurice with Dan and Tim hard on their heels closely followed by Bill and Nan in their Redwing and the Osprey of Dave and Paul. Robin Wood in his International Canoe powered upwind to get to the windward mark first.

Oscar and Ceri in the 49er had a few spills in the freshening breeze, still getting used to their flying machine.

The first downwind leg was very broad, followed by the gybe mark and then a beam reach back to the leeward mark. The gusts gave the dinghies a chance to plane and Bill and Nan’s Redwing really picked up her skirt and flew along with the crew on the wire.

They completed three laps to finish with Dan and Tim just pipping them, with Dave and Maurice seconds behind.

Results: 1st IC 344 Robin; 2nd Osprey 1276 Dan Jackson & Tim Griffiths; 3rd Osprey 1365 Dave Griffiths & Maurice Clark; 4th Osprey 1328 David Pleister & Paul Griffiths; 5th Redwing 228 Bill & Nan Dowell; 6th 49er Oscar Thompson & Ceri Roberts

July 8 results: Peter Rose in Scorpion 1995, won two of the three races for the Joe Wright Cup with Peter Raiimbault in his Laser 2nd, and Steve Leach in his RS600 3rd. Robin Wood’s INT Canoe was sadly dismasted. Igor and Marek ran the races.

Open Day - Lewis James enrolled 17 newcomers for the July 9 event. Seven of them enjoyed trips in three Cruisers, Seren, Slipstream , and Cocoa, but the weather commanded that the Dinghy trials had to be cancelled.

The Club welcomes all the newcomers to come again to enjoy the camaraderie and take advantage of Adult and Junior training sessions on Wednesday evenings.
