TENBY Sailing Club’s Dave Griffiths and Maurice Clarke in Osprey 1365, Carpé Diem, triumphed at the Mumbles Osprey Open meeting on 22-23 August.

The meeting was good preparation for the Osprey Nationals in Mount’s Bay from 3-7 September

Calm water made for pleasant sailing for seven crews on Tuesday, 25 August.

Seven boats raced in a light SW breeze on Thursday. The start was heavily contested, with the ebb tide pushing the fleet towards the first windward mark.

Robin and Matt, 244, got away cleanly, closely followed by Mike and Deanna, 225, with Redwing newcomers Steve and Jas, 249, also in the mix.

This was the order at the first mark. 244 extended her lead over the next two laps, followed by 225.

Bill and Peter, 228, showed impressive downwind speed to propel them into third, a whisker ahead of 249.

Fifth to finish were Alex and Dewi, 190, sixth Kevin and Gary, 178, and seventh, Howard and Michelle, 241.

The Redwing fleet in Tenby has a new addition, sailing captain Julian Cumpsty has bought R252, Red Kite, and brought her from Looe. R241 has passed into club ownership.

Mixed weather conditions depleted the fleet for two very enjoyable races on Saturday. Two Ospreys and Two Redwings took part.

The Phantom Class will be holding their National Championships in Tenby from 3-6 September.
