Sailing
News has filtered through that one of our juniors, Deryn May, has been selected for the Great Britain Optimist squad and is off to compete in Holland at Easter. Many congratulations to Deryn on this achievement, and the very best of luck in Holland.
Bangladeshi Banquet
We are delighted to be hosting another evening of delicious, traditional Bangladeshi cuisine for members and their guests.
This treat for the taste buds will take place in the clubhouse on January 26 and will cost a mere £16 per person. The evening will start around 7.30 pm, with food served around 8,pm.
To reserve your places, please leave your name, the number in your party and a cheque for the appropriate amount for the number in your party behind the bar at the sailing club. Please make all cheques payable to the Bay of Bengal and full payment must be made at the time of booking.
Hurry, though, as numbers are limited and last year's banquet was sold out even before it was advertised!
Sailing meeting.
There will be a meeting on Saturday, January 19, at the club to discuss sailing issues for the forthcoming season. All interested parties are invited to attend to contribute to the discussions.
Festive Jollities
The club was busy over the festive period with the well attended Christmas party on the Saturday before Christmas, a house full for a warm-up drink after the Boxing Day Swim and another for the Commodore's Curry Night on New Year's Eve. The curry was in such demand, the commodore was still serving in the early hours of New Year's Day! Well done Mr. Commodore!
Darts
Last Friday saw the annual club darts championships. As usual, captain Terry Evans was knocked out first round by the eventual winner.
Several close matches resulted in the final being contested by Paul Taylor and John 'Double eight, double eight' Akrill.
The match went to the last game, with Paul narrowly defeating John in a thrilling finish.
We hail our new champion for 2012, Paul Taylor.
This evening we are away to the Swanlake Inn - vice-captain Ruth Tebbutt will have to rally the troops as Terry is away on grand-parental duties.
