‘The Mayor’s Challenge’ held on Sunday, June 29 as part of the Long Course Weekend marathon stages in Tenby has been hailed a tremendous success — raising a total of £2,462 for a wide range of charities supporting the local community.
The event brought together runners of all ages and abilities, with entries donated by Long Course Weekend organisers Matthew Evans and Scott Powell, who contributed 10 x 5km and 10 x 10km race slots in support of the initiative.
Participants included first-time runners, category winners, and even a 13-year-old entrant, highlighting the inclusive and community-focused nature of the challenge.

Mayor of Tenby, Cllr Dai Morgan praised the efforts of all involved, stating: “It wasn’t just the sun that shone on the day — it was the generosity, determination, and spirit of our community.
“I want to extend heartfelt thanks and congratulations to everyone who took part, supported, donated, or volunteered.
“It’s a real honour to be able to support an international event right here in Tenby, and even more rewarding to see it making a tangible difference locally.”
The funds raised will be distributed among the following charities and organisations: Tenby Sea Cadets; The Old Chapel, Tenby; Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity; Wales Air Ambulance; Tenby Rowing Club; St David’s Hospice; CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young); Ysgol Greenhill; VC Gallery.

Each of these groups plays a vital role in supporting individuals and families across Pembrokeshire, and the donations will help them continue their work within the community.
The Mayor also extended special thanks to Long Course Weekend organisers, noting their ongoing commitment to community partnerships, adding: “Thank you to Matthew and Scott for your continued support. Your generosity made this possible, and it’s a perfect example of how large-scale events can benefit local causes.”
The Mayor’s Challenge is expected to return next year.
