UNDER 8s

Fifteen players from the Under 8s played their last two games of the season last Sunday on the Junior School pitch in Heywood Lane.

It was decided that captain for the first match against Oakdale would be Maddie Williams, and as soon as the whistle went, the team pushed hard for an early lead, with a try by Jacob Salisbury.

The team showed excellent defence and great skill offloading the ball before getting tagged, and Ollie Palin side-stepped his way through and scored in the right corner.

Evan Owen was next to score for Tenby with a fast run to the try line, followed by a try from Rhys Richards, who ran the full length of the pitch, bringing a half-time score of 4-1 to the young Seasiders.

After a changeover of players, and fresh legs on the pitch, an amazing try by Archie Treadaway-Williams in the right corner kept the touring side on their toes, followed by a quick dash to the try line by Jake Henson.

The team showed great game awareness, and forced turnover ball several times by tagging extremely well.

Oakdale tried hard to close the gap, but Cai Barry scored in the right corner, after a great run by Maddie, and Harry Malone left the other team stunned by his great try, bringing the final score to 8-4 to Tenby.

With spirits high, the next game was against Tonyrefail. Captain for this game was Harry Malone.

It was great to see how well the players played as a team, and supported each other so well. It was also great to see how much fun both teams were having, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Finlay Drummond scored for Tenby in the right corner, followed by an amazing run to the try line by Archie Treadaway-Williams. Finlay bagged another for Tenby just before the half-time whistle with a fab try.

After a quick water break, the teams returned to the game which was three apiece.

A fine try by Rhys Richards came straight after the whistle following a great pass by Archie, while Jacob Salisbury scored twice in a row.

Tonyrefail kept the game tight, however, with the score very close at all times. Great skill was shown by all players during the entire match, and Evan Owen scored the last try in the right corner after his great run, with an end result of seven-all.

Team: Luke, Matty, Alfie, Rhys, Ollie, Finlay, Jacob, Cai, Jake, Jasey, Denholm, Maddie, Harry, Evan and Archie.

At the end of all games, Oakdale, Tenby and Tonyrefail were pictured together, and Maddie and Harry presented each team with a Tenby RFC tie.

Thanks to Delwyn and Baz for coaching the games, and a special thanks to Chrissy Williams who refereed the matches, and who has also given up his spare time to help at training sessions.

Thanks also to the parents for their continuous support, and for their time and effort travelling to matches, and to Delwyn and Tim for coaching the team.

Finally, thanks to the Under 8s, who put in their hard work training every Thursday, and who turn up to play on a Sunday regardless of the weather at times!

Well done to Jasey Brace and Alfie Evans, who haven't missed a match this season, and hope you all enjoy the rugby presentation in a few weeks time.

Good luck next season, when you'll give up tagging, and get stuck into tackling!

TENBY Under 7s

The last fixtures of the season were played on Sunday against touring teams Oakdale and Tonyrefail.

Captain for the first game was Joshua Geertman, who presented the Oakdale captain with a Swifts tie.

The game started well, with both sides creating chances, but it was Toby who managed to get through the defence and score the first try for Tenby.

Tenby kept their defence strong and saw turnover ball from the restart, which allowed Kyle in to score in the corner. Iori was next to score for Tenby after a great run.

Kyle was having an immense game and he scored two more before Oakdale managed to cross the line twice just before half-time, to make the score 5-2.

Oakdale were first to take advantage in the second half with a great try after running the full length of the pitch, but Tenby were not downbeat and responded with some excellent tagging which created turnover ball. Iori took it quickly and scored, and this was soon followed by an excellent run from Oscar, who scored in the corner.

A last minute try from Toby completed the game, with the final score 8-3 to Tenby.

The second game saw Tenby play Tonyrefail. Captain for this game was Duane Lee John, who once again presented the touring team with a Tenby Swifts tie.

This game was much closer, with both teams playing end to end rugby. Tenby took early advantage, with the first try coming from Iori. Tonyrefail took the restart quickly and, although Tenby were excellent in defence, the visitors scored to level it up.

The two sides were very evenly matched and Iori's second try was soon cancelled out by the opposition.

Toby took control and scored twice within a couple of minutes, but Tonyrefail had turnover ball and once again went in at the corner.

Further tries from Iori and Oscar saw the half-time score 6-4 to Tenby.

Tonyrefail were soon back almost level with their fifth of the game, but some excellent teamwork throughout created further tries for Dylan, Toby and Dion, leaving the final score 9-6 to Tenby.

The whole team throughout the year has shown great improvement, with every member playing their part in defence and attack. We have had a successful season, with only four losses. Well done everyone.
