We always knew this was going to be a tough mixed game against Carmarthen, last two years' runners-up to the trophy. Wow could they play good golf!
Tenby's team of Heather K. Morgan (captain) and Mervyn Tucker, Georgina Ormond and Lewis Hurlow, and Sarah Waring and Idwal David (pictured) all played their hearts out on a difficult course. The fairways were rock hard and the greens very woolly due to the present weather conditions, (having said that it was the same for both teams). Carmarthen's team of David Thomas (captain) and Julia Webb, Elin Jones and Gwenallt Jones, and Susan Convery and Edward Wheeler were all low handicap golfers, and quickly mastered the conditions. Our opponents did not drop a shot from the sixth hole. It was lovely golf to watch. All three matches eventually went Carmarthen's way.
However, the game was played in good spirit and we all promised to meet up in the final in Llangollen in October when Tenby will play for the plate, and Carmarthen, we hope, for the trophy.

Ladies' Section
After months of commenting on the weather being too wet or cold to encourage anyone to play, we now have the opposite extreme of excessive heat proving too much for some. Ah well, life in Britain is never dull!
Towards the end of June, the Yorkshire Cup was played in not very good conditions and it was won by Heather Morgan on 33 points, Maura Rimell was second on 29 and third was Sarah Waring on 28.
The following week, another Stableford Cup, the Marjorie Glover Rose Bowl was played in more favourable wether and the Bowl was won by Denise Edwards on 38 points on the last nine from Julie Lovett with Annette Flower third on 37.
July began with a qualifying round for the Centenary Foursomes, a Greensome Stableford, and the qualifiers were Anne Wilks and Vicky Burks with 38 points on the last nine from Pam Cole and Pat Fox. The final will be played at Holywell on September 10.
The weekend GUW Medal at the beginning of July was won by Georgina Ormond on nett 71 from Trevayne Keohane on 85. The memorable occurrence of the day was Maura Rimell's hole in one at the 17th. Those of us lucky enough to have also had holes in one will remember how pleased we were and Maura was no exception. Well done, Maura, we hope it will be the first of several!
The July GUW Medal was combined with the Peggy Cobb Gross Trophy. Heather Morgan won the Medal with nett 71 and Denise Edwards was second on nett 73, however the Peggy Cobb result was reversed as Denise's gross score was two shots better than Heather's. The nine hole Stableford played in conjunction with the Medal was won by Paula Morgan on 19 points.
The Stableford competition on July 18 was won by Pam Cole on 40 points with Denise Edwards on 38 and Nesta Hart on 37.

Friday Friendly Foursomes
With matches to be played and end of term socialising, the numbers were down for the Friendly Fours last Friday, but eight people turned up and a most enjoyable evening ensued. The weather couldn't have been better as the evening sun set and a cooling breeze came in off the sea.
We were pleased to welcome Chris Davies for his first game with us which he said he enjoyed. He and Trevayne Keohane managed 32 points over 14 holes, so taking second place. Their playing partners were Maura Rimell and David T. Morgan who, thanks to the amazing putting of David (at least three 30-footers Maura said!) managed a super 36 points.
They also won the bag draw, along with Laura McQueen and Matt Adams; so winning back their entry fee. It was a great night with a superb meal in the clubhouse when we got in.
The next Friday Friendly Fours is on August 9. The sign-up sheet for the draw is on the mixed noticeboard.
The Morgan Tucker Greensomes Trophy is on Sunday morning, August 18, and that can be entered via the computer.

Rabbits Summer League
The Rabbits are continuing their impressive form in Pool A of the Three Counties League. Following home victories over Garnant (5.5-1.5) and Carmarthen (4.5-2.5), they travelled to Garnant last Sunday for the return fixture. They have lost every previous game here, but captain Phil Carpenter took six strong pairs with him and, on an extremely hot day, they achieved a half, with the final pairing of Mark Edwards and Peter Turton winning the final hole of their game to secure the team result. The pairings of Richard Proud and Dave Blackmore and Phil Carpenter and Paul Davies both won their games and the 'last chance' pairing of Steve Cole and Robin Bradbury secured the other half.
Next league fixtures are away to Milford Haven and Haverfordwest in early August. Please let Phil know of your availability.
