Centuries in Harrison-Allen finals are rare occurrences, yet in this year's final, played in front of Sky TV cameras for a feature during the forthcoming Ashes test in Durham, a player from either side managed the feat, with Llangwm's Will Beresford adding to his ton in the semi-final win against Whitland and Neyland's Ashley Sutton adding to the list of players making the sacred score.
Sutton's performance (the third player to score 102 in a final after Stephen Phillips, of Haverfordwest, and Geoff Cullen, of Lamphey) was doubly impressive as it was later revealed he was playing with a fracture in his ankle.
He scored the first of the match in Neyland's total of 159-6 after they replied to Llangwm's 121-5 in which Beresford scored 42 and Andrew Harris 18. The score being kept in check by Nathan Banner taking two wickets.
Andrew Miller scored 23 and Nick Koomen 10 to help Neyland lead after the first innings, while Andrew Harries took 2-31 for Llangwm.
Needing a sizeable score to push Neyland, Llangwm went at it from the start, with Beresford in particular looking the part as he scored 114, with support from Harries, 13, and Joseph Kiff, 19, as Patrick Hannon took 5-58 and Banner 2-24.
Sutton carried on where he left off in the first innings, hitting a superb 43, while skipper Gregg Miller hit 32 and Andrew Miller 20 as Neyland won by six wickets, losing just four in pursuit of their victory target, with Sutton being named man-of-the-match (and no doubt going down in folklore as a hero who played through the pain barrier to ensure his team lifted the bowl for the second time in three seasons.)
It was Neyland's third win in four weeks over Llangwm and with just four games left in the league, they will be odds-on favourites to win that title, too, given them a treble of trophies for the season and for those wishing to see it on TV, it will be broadcast during the lunch interval of the fourth test on Saturday on Sky Sports.
