LADIES' SECTION

The ladies' AGM took place in November, when we thanked our outgoing captain, Lynne Rees, for a wonderful year and welcomed our new captain, Mary Lewis, and wished her all the best for her year.

On Wednesday, December 10, a total of 30 South Pembrokeshire ladies, all smartly dressed and coiffured, met at the Kings Arms in Pembroke for their Christmas lunch and presentation dinner. This is when the non-silverware prizes are presented, mainly golf balls, wine and chocolate - I will leave it to readers to guess which prize they prefer!

Some of these prizes were played for at the end of 2013 right through to the end of October 2014, so it was a nice surprise for some who had forgotten about their achievements - even though all the results had been kindly printed by the Observer throughout the year.

It was a very enjoyable afternoon. Janet Norrie, who had been a wonderful caterer, was presented with a Kindle from the ladies' section on her retirement and new captain Mary Lewis presented Ria Phillips with a bottle of wine and a Christmas table decoration in appreciation of al her hard work filling up the goody bags with everyone's prizes and all her hard work throughout the year.

Now to some of the results for October and November.

The bogey competition played on November 22 was won by Mary Lewis, with Ann Williams second Mrs. Wrench's Ashtray, played for on October 29, was won by Jayne Lewis with a nett 74, while runner-up was Lynn Messingham with nett 76.

Anita Davies, with a nett 72, won the GUW medal on November 2, with runner-up being Carole Blackwell with nett 76, while another GUW medal was played for on November 5, winner being Lynne Reese, beating Ann Williams on the back nine, with a nett 75.

It is always enjoyable to play fun games and the yellow ball competition was played on a miserable, wet and windy day, but we all managed to bring home the yellow ball. First was the team of Anita Davies, Sharon Kaye and Lynn Messingham 44 points; second Lynne Rees, Ria Phillips and Sarah Scourfield 35 points.

Carole Blackwell won the first Christmas competition with 28 pts, beating Sharon Kaye on the back five (a 14-hole competition), while third was Jayne Lewis on 26.

Christmas competition two winner was Geraldine Alderman with 31 pts, 2. Lynn Messingham 30 and 3. Carole Blackwell 29, while the third was won by Mary Lewis 31 pts, 2. Carole Blackwell 27 and 3. Sue Harries 26 .

The weather on December 23 was miserable, so the majority of ladies decided not to play and we held a golf quiz instead. Carole Blackwell was the winner with 7/10, and this was a good opportunity to explain some of the rules to the new players. However, three hardy souls did venture out and, as it was an all-winners competition and we all brought our seasonally wrapped presents, Lynne Rees, Ann Harvison and Sue Leverton went up to the prize table to have first pick. After lunch, we sang some Christmas carols and after wishing everyone the best for Christmas and the New Year, everyone went home to prepare for the festivities.
