Perfect conditions again greeted the annual Andrew Price/Tenby Round Table Soccer Sevens.

Thirty-six teams from around the county and as far as Cardiff, Neath, Newport, Carmarthen, Merthyr Tydfil and Swansea battled for the trophies in three age groups, Under 8s, 10s and 12s.

The format was two pools of six teams, in each age group, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals and the winners of these contesting the finals.

After all the pool games had been played, the four teams through to the Under 8s semi-finals were Neyland Pirates, Fishguard, Kilgetty and the Bluebirds of Carmarthen.

The first semi-final saw Neyland Pirates beat Kilgetty by two goals to nil, while the second semi was won by the Bluebirds, who beat Fishguard by three goals to nil.

The exciting final was won by the Bluebirds by two goals to nil and the player of the final, chosen by the referee, was the Bluebirds' Liam Edwards.

The Under 10s' tournament was equally as exciting, with Tenby '10', Hundleton, the Bluebirds and Teranau Teifi all progressing to the semi-finals.

The first semi was between Tenby '10' and Teranau Teifi, which saw the Cardigan based side edge home by two goals to nil.

While the second semi-final between Hundleton and the Bluebirds went to extra-time and the golden goal scenario, but still neither side could score.

So it went to the player reduction system; this is where a player is taken off each team after every two minutes until a goal is scored.

Both teams were down to four players before Hundleton grabbed the winner.

The final of this group was just as close, with Teranau Teifi beating Hundleton by a single goal. The player of this final, again chosen by the referee, was Iwan Jones, of Teranau Teifi.

Both the Under 12s semi-finals produced excellent football and the ties were only decided in the last few minutes of each match. Troedyrhiw of Merthyr beat Tenby '12A' by two goals to nil, while Camrose got the better of Carmarthen 'A' also by two goals to nil.

This final was a very tense affair and could have gone either way. However, Camrose just edged Troedyrhiw by one-nil and the player of the final was Morgan Thomas from Camrose, as selected by the referee.

All the trophies, which were sponsored by Andrew Price, were presented to the winners, runners-up and players of the finals by Matthew Broadhurst, chairman of Tenby Round Table.

Tenby Round Table are once again eternally grateful to Andrew Price for his generous sponsorship of the tournament and to the Tenby Tourers, Sub-Urban and Red Kite Solicitors who sponsored the programmes.

However, no tournament can commence without referees and the Round Table are very grateful to Lloyd Hughes, Dylan Rees, Scott Ferney, Declan Escott, Spencer Williams, Daniel Evans, Will Davies, Elliot Scotcher and Neil Finlay, who donned the black kit.

Extended thanks go Kevin, Jake, Holly, Lauren, Hannah, Jane and the ever-dependable Chris Fairlie who provided the refreshments and to the raffle ticket sellers Jo Brindley and Hannah McBeth, who also did an excellent job.

The winner of the raffle, a microwave oven, was Helen Ringford, of Carmarthen.

Extended thanks also goes to those who helped the Round Table prior to and on the day, especially Andrew Williams, Gareth Noot, Andy Davidson, Jeremy Hughes, Curtis Hurlow, members of Tenby AFC and Round Table and anyone else who might have been forgotten.
