Rain was the winner over the weekend in Pembrokeshire as a proliferation of games were called off due to wet and boggy conditions.
Cancellation due to rain is not uncommon in Pembrokeshire football, especially just before and after Christmas, but to see so many called off at the start of November is, and it's not the first weekend of suffering for some teams; Pendine have endured three weekends of no football already and more surely is to come.
Some teams were able to take the field, however, as Narberth were in Tony Nakonecznyj Insurance Brokers WWFA Intermediate Cup round two action away at Evans and Williams. The away trip proved to be a fruitful one as the Bluebirds triumphed 3-0. Ashley Williams got the ball rolling before Morgan Preece and Jordan Richards completed the win.
Tenby's form of late has been a revelation compared to the early season performances they produced and as such a trip to Hakin to take on the Vikings may not have been as daunting as it was a month or two ago. A week is a long time in football, however, and the Seasiders know this now after suffering a 6-0 defeat. The only blessing for them is they are now out of the West Wales Cup, as some teams can find it a bind later on in the season as teams play catch-up.
In league action, Saundersfoot Sports got their form back as they romped to a 3-1 win at St. Ishmaels. The result put the away side back into second spot after a couple of indifferent performances as Geoff Marsh scored twice and Dan Bates once from the penalty spot to give the Sports the points.
Kilgetty firsts managed to play, although they probably wish they hadn't after their trip to West Dragons resulted in a miserable loss. Jack Franklin scored for the visitors, but the home side dominated the game to win 6-1.
Narberth's second string also beat the weather as they entertained Hubberston on what proved to be a fruitful afternoon.
Home advantage certainly did count as they won 9-1. Tony Evans and Mark O'Connell both finished with a brace, while Dylan Davies and Ryan Williams scored once. Mark O'Sullivan was the man smiling most, however, as he finished with a hat-trick in one of the most dominant performances seen at Jesse Road for a number of seasons.
Manorbier United lost at Johnston after going down 3-1, despite Chris Wright's goal, while Lawrenny had the, best and quite possibly closest win of the week after succeeding in a 12-goal thriller. They eventually prevailed 7-5 at Pembroke Boro, with Dean Morris scoring a hat-trick and Owen James a brace. Brad Jenkins also got in on the act, before Tom Lewis completed a brilliant and tense win.
Not such a good weekend for Tenby seconds, however, as they lost 7-4 at home to Hakin United reserves.
In division four, Carew Seconds' game at home to Monkton Swifts was postponed, but Saundersfoot Sports managed to play and succeed against Herbrandston, winning 8-2.
Tom Davies grabbed a brilliant hat-trick for the home side, with Gareth Hunt, Joe Farrell, Tom Woolford, Chris May and Rhys Bates scoring the other five between them.
Ashley Smith was on fire for St. Florence as he scored twice in their home clash against Clarbeston Road, although his brilliance couldn't prevent them from going down 3-2.
In division five, however, Lawrenny seconds' game against West Dragons was postponed and so, too, was St. Clears' seconds game at Letterston.
Manorbier United seconds got to play and triumphed in sensational style after winning 8-0 against their counterparts from Lamphey.
The villages may only be miles apart, yet it would have felt like an eternity for Lamphey as they went home after being on the receiving end of such a result.
Mike Brown wouldn't have been that sympathetic, though, as he scored five goals, with Mike Ryder, Zak Thomas and Will Cowan adding the others.
