Saundersfoot Sea Angling Club held a match within a match on Sunday at Amroth beach within the RNLI Open.

Competing for points only, entry to the SSAC competition was free as all anglers were also competing for the RNLI Open prizes. Twelve members competed in windy conditions which helped swell the total entry to 96 on the day. Seven anglers brought flounder to the scales at Amroth Arms, Amroth.

Saundersfoot club results were: 1. Merv Brace with a bag of 1.035kg (10 pts); 2. Tony O'Neill with a bag of 835g (8); 3. Andy Young with a bag of 720g (6); 4. Franco Annatasio with a bag of 630g (4).

Forthcoming events: Sunday, February 12 - Pendine Beach, sponsored by The Captain's Table, Saundersfoot. No vehicular access. Sign on at Pendine car park by 2 pm, fishing from 2.30 - 6.30 pm. Weigh in at the Cabin, with scales closing 7.30 pm prompt. £100 first prize, £50 for second.

Saturday, February 18 -Annual Dinner. Three-course meal for £12.95 at Wiseman's Bridge Inn. Please contact Tony Ormond for menu and booking.

Sunday, February 26 - Pendine Beach, sponsored by The Mulberry, Saundersfoot. No vehicular access. Sign on at Pendine car park by 1.30 pm, fishing from 2 - 6 pm. Weigh in at The Mulberry, with scales closing 7 pm prompt. £100 first prize, £50 for second.

Please note - all matches have reverted to single rod unless notified otherwise. Take all safety precautions, especially when fishing rock marks. It is SSAC policy that all rovers must be fished in pairs or more, never alone. If targeting larger species, please ensure that you have access to an accurate set of scales and a camera to record the fish if it is to be released immediately.

Flounder minimum size for SSAC matches has now returned to 30cm at the scales.

SSAC meetings are held in the Sports Club on the first Wednesday of the month, all are welcome. Next meeting February 1.
