Sunday Racing
Last Sunday presented excellent conditions for the ninth race of the season overseen by Rachel Tudor doing her first stint as OOD (well done Rachel) assisted by Graham with Tim, Finlay and Martyn on patrol. Another good turnout of twelve boats was set a Monkstone, Pendine, Harbour course with the faster boats completing two laps within the hour. At the end of the first lap, the two Phantoms were absolutely nose to tail with Nick Berridge's bow virtually up Peter Bower's transom, but on the next leg Nick suffered gear failure and subsequently lost ground. Likewise, Keith Jones (Striker) was a very close doppelganger to Paul Johnson (Solo) round the harbour mark and improved his performance on the second lap to win the race on handicap, with Peter Bower second, Paul Johnson third and Paul Griffiths (Solo) fourth. We don't know what they were 'on', but a couple of sailors suffered hallucinations, mistaking the Welsh flag on the Jones and Teague building to be a shorten course signal whilst others swore to seeing club members who weren't actually there on the quayside! Despite these mirages, everyone completed the race happily concluding a very good outing for the day.
This Sunday there are two races with an 11.30 am start.
Darts
The sun set at St. Florence on our team's aspiration to secure a second win on the trot last Friday, but not until we had won the first three games with Tim 'going out' from 91 in three consecutive darts! A fantastic set of arrows! Tonight (Friday's) match at home against Swanlake is the last of an epic season. We will then have to wait to see how far off the ground we are on the league ladder - we certainly won't be in a position to cause serious damage from a fall!!
Club Oldies
Shed Years!
The newly decorated club house had its inaugural event on Saturday and rang to the sounds of the decades when members enjoyed a trip down memory lane with quizzes and music from the '60s and '70s. Suitably fortified by a substantial buffet supper including black forest gateau - it wouldn't be complete without that '60s favourite! - they grooved the night away with wonderful live music from Nick 'Michael Buble' Berridge. Supporting Nick for one night only was Colin J and the Disco-lights who provided us with what has to be the seminal performance of 'Delilah'. Sir Tom eat your heart out!
A fantastic evening was had by all. F.A. B!
CYRCS
We are hosting the next youth racing circuit meeting on Saturday, May 26, and more volunteers to help organize the day for the up and coming sailing youth of South Wales would be appreciated. Please contact Graham on 07890 987825.
Race Officer Training
Don't forget the opportunity to get RYA accredited race officer training on the course to be held at the Pembrokeshire Yacht Club (PYC) Clubhouse, Gelliswick, Milford Haven, on Saturday, May 26, from 10 am - 4 pm. Suitable for complete novices and as an update for existing race officers. Whilst it is unfortunate that this clashes with the CYRCS meeting above, we do need more members trained in running races, so please contact Paul Johnson for more details. Tel. 814145.
Coppet Week
Arrangements are progressing well for our major annual event to be held from Sunday- Friday, June 3-8. Applications are moving towards the usual numbers with a huge range of classes and some top level competitors as well as normal club sailors.
More volunteers to help run the event are still required. Please contact Graham on 07890 987825.
