SAUNDERSFOOT 71 (12 pts.) HAVERFORDWEST 69 (2)

A week after narrowly defeating third placed Whitland, Saundersfoot had another success last Saturday when they played at home to second placed Haverfordwest, winning by two shots.

The win confirms a fifth placed position in the Pembrokeshire Division One league table and a chance of finishing fourth if they defeat Milford Haven next week in their last match.

As the result suggests, the game was evenly poised throughout, with the result not known until the last wood was bowled.

With two rinks finished and two on their last end, the visitors led by one shot, but the village rinks picked up a two and a single to ease home.

Rink scores, with Saundersfoot first and Haverfordwest skips only, were:

Graham Hughes, Paul Blayney, Brian Desmond, Myrddin Dennis 11; Chris Court 27.

Alan Brace, Mike Ashbridge, Roy Pring, Berwyn Dennis 25; Marley Hughes 13.

Roy Kennion, Adam Hensman, Neil Hensman, John Dugmore 20; Peter Jenkins 16.

Nev Ruff, Doug Silcox, Brian McKehon, Steve Dick 15; Tony Wilks 13.

ST. ISSELL'S 56 FISHGUARD AND GOODWICK 92

St. Issell's completed their Division Two league programme last Sunday with a disappointing result, being defeated by second place Fishguard and Goodwick, who returned home with all 14 points.

Fifteen shots adrift at the tea interval, the visitors turned the screw in the second half to win the match by 36 shots.

Rink scores, with St. Issell's first and Fishguard and Goodwick skips only, were:

Dennis Ball, Peter Williams, Don Stokes, Barrie Lee 17; Mike Barringer 21.

Tony Wheeler, Mike Ashbridge, Peter Guyett, Mike Oliver 17; Davo Hughes 21.

Dennis Reed, Bob Storey, Roy Pring, Eric George 9; Tom Jones 29.

Eric Smith, Graham Roberts, Billy Glynn, Mike Carr 13; Tony Evans 21.

ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 34 TASKER 31

The ladies of St. Issell's played their last home game last Monday, entertaining the Tasker girls from Haverfordwest and gained four of the six points that were at stake in a three-shot win.

Only one game to go now which is an away fixture at Tenby next Tuesday, with the team, under captain Kath Blayney, having improved on last year's performance and likely to finish in mid-table.

Rink scores, with St. Issell's first and Tasker skips, only were:

Audrey Williams, Christine Harris, Rene Silcox, Beryl Lawrence 18; Mandy Lewis 20.

Lyn Statters, Brenda Davies, Kath Blayney, Beryl Lewis 16; Win Howells 11.

CLUB FINALS WEEKEND

The climax of this year's club tournaments takes place this weekend with a few semi-finals still to be played and the Ironman event on Sunday causing the tournament secretary a few headaches in finalising a timings schedule. This should be on the notice board today and hopefully we will have a rain-free weekend.
