LADIES CAPTAIN'S DAY
The captain of the ladies section of Saundersfoot Bowling Club, Kath Blayney, held a successful Captain's Day last week.
The event had a royal theme, with some members in fancy dress, and after several glasses of Pimms on arrival, plenty of fun was had with indoor bowls and games before all enjoyed a royal high tea.
A special tape was played with a message from the new royal baby, who was remarkably eloquent for his tender age and who sounded like his grandfather Prince Charles.
No prizes for guessing who had conveyed the message, as those in the club know who our own royal impersonator is!
After tea, Kath thanked everyone who had supported the day and for the cards and presents that she had received.
In particular, daughter Kathryn was thanked for making all the cakes and desserts, for which she was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
Sue Roden, who had made the scones and the wonderful royal floral decorations, and Amanda Lewis were presented with gifts for their help on the day, as was Gloria Dugmore for acting as entertainments manager.
Gifts were also given to Sue and Ann Lewis, her co- selectors of the St. Issell's team, and husband Paul and Graham Roberts were thanked for their help on the bar and in the kitchen.
The winners of the indoor bowls competition, Beryl Lewis and Lorna Bissell, received prizes, as did the winners for the best fancy dress, Sue Roden, who was runner-up as Prince Philip, and the winner, Amanda Lewis, who, together with blow-up horse, had come as Princess Anne.
Kath then explained that the presentation of the coveted Captain's Shield was always a problem as there were so many worthy candidates, but that after giving the matter much thought, she had decided to give the award equally to three ladies who had not been enjoying the best of health, but who had still supported her and the club, as they had done for many years.
To rapturous applause, Kath then presented the shield to Mary Cavell, Gloria Dugmore and Beryl Lawrence, who all thanked her for the honour.
In response, Angela Roberts, on behalf of those present, thanked Kath for providing everyone with a wonderful day.
The occasion concluded with Kath again thanking everyone who had attended and who had made her day such a success.

Congratulations to Stephanie Amos for winning the West Wales Ladies Bowling Association singles title at Whitland last weekend by defeating fellow club member Gwenda Rees.
In the Autumn Cup, Sue Roden narrowly lost to Julia King Thomas, of Tenby, in a thrilling match which saw her holding game on the last end with the scores tied at 19-all, only for Julia to trail the jack with her last wood to win the match herself.
There was another thriller in the two-wood final which went to an extra end before Saundersfoot's Rene Silcox just lost out to Helen Baggot, of Tenby.
