Members of Saundersfoot Bowling Club gathered at their clubhouse last week for the annual presentation evening.

Following a chicken and chips meal, chairman Paul Blayney thanked the ladies of the club not only for their work that night, but also for their continuing support in all club events, particularly in the season just ended with the extra work that had been entailed in organising the catering for the golden jubilee anniversary games.

Thanks were extended to those who had organised and supported the year's tournaments, with special mention being made of those who had acted as markers and also resident umpire Fred Rogers.

Head greenkeeper Chris Jenkins and Gerald were thanked for ensuring that the Saundersfoot green continues to be one of the best in the area and Paul then went on to congratulate those members who had gained particular success in reaching and winning county competitions and who had been selected to represent Pembrokeshire.

Ceris Hewlings and Gemma Amos had again played for Wales and Ceris, Kath Blayney and Ann Lewis had been proud to represent Saundersfoot, the county and Wales in the British Isles tournament held in Bangor, Northern Ireland, last June, in their capacity as Welsh triples champions, returning home with runners-up medals.

Ceris, Kath, Gemma and Rachel Hensman had also recently reached the Welsh Women's Bowling Association finals weekend in several competitions, held at the start of the month in Newport.

Finally, the Saundersfoot ladies team were congratulated on becoming league champions for the third successive year and for gaining this achievement for the sixth time in the past 10 years.

Paul, accompanied by club president John Evans, then proceeded to present the club competition winners and runners-up with their prizes, before ladies captain Angela Roberts awarded the ladies captain's shield to this year's worthy recipient, Diane Rigden.

The winner of the Tuesday triples competition, Brian McKehon, then received his trophy, before Paul reminded members of several forthcoming events, namely the dinner-dance at the Merlewood Hotel on October 12, the Christmas coffee morning on November 17, the Quaynotes concert at the end of November and the Christmas lunch in December.

Members were wished success if playing indoor bowls and a good winter, before president John Evans rounded off the official part of the evening by thanking Paul for all his work and the ladies for their marvellous contribution to the life of the club.
