SAUNDERSFOOT 60 WHITLAND 80

Saundersfoot played their second Pembrokeshire Division One league game of the season last Saturday when they played host to Whitland.

Following their away win at Milford Haven the previous week, the villagers were hoping for a repeat success, but it was not to be as, despite there being only one shot difference in the game at the threequarter mark, a strong finish by the visitors gained them a 20-shot win and all 14 points at stake.

On rink two, Edward Smith, Brian McKehon, Joe Dennis and Berwyn Dennis were level with their opponents skipped by Glyndwr Thomas after 11 ends, but dropped counts of a four and two threes in the second half helped towards a 24 shots to 15 defeat.

Rink three saw Roy Kennion, George Cavell, Nev Ruff and Steve Dick take on Dan Jenner, and in a tight finish, the scores were level on 19 ends, but picking up a two and a one gave the Whitland four a 17 shots to 14 win.

On rink four, Graham Hughes, Neil Hensman, Brian Desmond and skip Myrddin Dennis also lost out at the death to the rink skipped by county president Colin Wynn.

Leading by one shot on the last end, Colin moved the jack with his last wood to make a three and gain a 15 shots to 13 win.

Rink five, too, saw a 'what might have been' story, with the Saundersfoot boys up against Steve Reese.

Eleven shots to one down after six ends, Alan Brace, Dennis Reed, Paul Blayney and Don Poole fought back to within one shot by the 'up and down' stage, but then dropped five shots over the last two ends to go down by 24 shots to 18.

Tomorrow (Saturday), the club play their first qualifying game in the Carruthers Shield when they travel to Whitland, and on Sunday, it's a return to league action, with Saundersfoot men playing away to Castle, of Haverfordwest, and the St. Issell's team hosting Pater, of Pembroke Dock.

ST. ISSELL'S LADIES 44 PICTON LADIES 25.75

The ladies of St. Issell's gained their third victory out of four played when they defeated their counterparts from Picton in Haverfordwest, gaining the maximum six points.

Lyn Statters, Brenda Davies, Dianne Rigden and skip Beryl Lewis defeated their opponents skipped by Ann Thomas by 26 shots to 19, whilst captain Kath Blayney, playing with Sue Roden and Amanda Lewis, defeated Pam Langdon's triples by 18 shots to 6.75.

The ladies will be hoping to gain the double next Wednesday when they play the same opponents away.

TENBY LADIES 34 SAUNDERSFOOT LADIES 41

Saundersfoot ladies also had a good result last week when they travelled the short distance to Tenby and returned home with a seven-shot win and four points.

Captain Angela Roberts led for skip Marion Evans, with Steph Amos at number two and Viv Edwards third, in a 26 shots to 13 win over their opponents skipped by Julia King Thomas.

On the other rink, Lorna Bissell skipped Sue McKehon, Ann Evans and Joyce Howe, but was defeated by Alison Redman's four by 21 shots to 15.

Tomorrow (Saturday), the team travel to play Whitland away, and on Tuesday, play Milford Ladybirds also away.
