The opening try was to be scored pretty quickly with Pembroke being the first to cross the line. With the conversion missed the score stood at 0-5 to the travelling team. Tenby were quick to respond and some lovely running phases by the backs and quick hands would help to provide the space out wide for Alfie to cross in the corner and the seasiders levelled the score 5-5. Next score was to fall to Tenby after the forwards secured the ball in the breakdown the backs were allowed to use their pace to attack the Pembroke defensive line and it would be Connor who would slice his way through to cross the try line. After a successful conversion the score sat at 12-5 to Tenby.
Both sets of forwards were battling hard and possession was lost and regained a number of times by both teams, but it would eventually be Pembroke who would hit back after a line out. A catch and drive pushed the seasiders back onto their own line and Pembroke were able to cross in the corner to once again level the score at 12-12. Some powerful tackles were going on and a wave of them from Pembroke saw the ball dislodged from Tenby’s hands and collected up by Pembrokes waiting backs who quickly crossed for their third try of the morning. Momentum with Pembroke they closed the half with a forth try and had the half time score be 12-26 to Pembroke.
A stern team talk at half time saw the seasiders tighten up their defense and push forward at every opportunity. Tenby were to start their fight back straight away when a charge by Lewis was received by a incoming Connor who used his speed to cross again and the gap in the score closed to 19-26. Tenby continued to fight hard for territory and following up from a strong push by the forwards Louie was to spot the gap and cross for try four to level once again the score to 26-26.
The backs were beginning to enjoy moving the ball and using the possession the forwards were working so hard for. A beautiful run by Evan C. took play once more back into Pembroke half and a determined run by Jayden and great support by Connor saw Connor cross for this third of the morning and edge the seasiders in front once again 33-26.
Momentum had now swung Tenby’s way and they were determined to build on it, soon again it was to be another injection of pace by Connor that saw him cross again and increase the lead 40-26. But Pembroke were not a team about to give up. They quickly pushed Tenby back onto their own try line but some fantastic defensive play by the seasiders weren’t making it easy for Pembroke.
Eventually though their persistence was to pay off and a tiring Tenby defence was unable to hold out any longer and Pembroke crept over. This was followed straight from the restart by another try for Pembroke and once again the teams were all square at 40-40. Tenby’s supportive play was shining through though, with every ball regained and secured they managed to push Pembroke back once again.
A determined run by Lewis which was supported by Ollie Tucker saw Tenby right on Pembrokes line and when presented with the opportunity Rhys stretched for the line to score and put the seasiders in the lead once more at 40-47.
After a tough start to the season it was clear to see how much the seasiders wanted to go into the christmas break with a win under their belt and when Logan Hall spotted a gap he was able to run the length of the field to score and after converting his own try secured the win for Tenby. Full time score 54-40 to the seasiders.
Under 11s would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and they look forward to seeing you on the touchline cheering them on in the new year.
Under 7s
Tenby Swifts Under 7s hosted local rivals Pembroke RFC on Sunday on the astroturf pitch at Greenhill. Captained by Caitlyn, the Swifts looked to continue their successful start to the season.
Tenby won the toss and kicked off. Strong tagging, quick passing and effective running again put the home team in a good position. However, a strong Pembroke side meant that Tenby could never let their guard down, with some speeding runs down the sideline.
The wind was also like a defence in itself, blowing tags clean off the players.
Tenby, however, were the winners, scoring 16 tries to Pembroke’s eight, with some exceptional individual tries.
Man of the match went to Rhys, with an excellent last-minute try to seal the win.
Team: Caitlyn Lewis, Rupert James, Bradley Rossiter, Ethan Brace, Jude Christen, Leo Werner, Jevan Guymer, Dylan Drewett, Rhys Broadhurst.
Tries: Jude (4), Leo (3), Jevan (3), Ethan (2), Rupert (2), Bradley, Rhys.
Under 10s
Tenby Swifts Under 10s welcomed Pembroke to Tenby on what started out as a wet Sunday morning. Jayden Cray captained the Swifts for the first time.
Tenby started slowly, with a few silly mistakes and handling errors, but with some great leadership from Madoc and Ethan L, the boys found their groove and started to function as a team.
The forwards were led by Iestyn B, who made sure he was in every ruck and battled to keep the ball. Jayden, Logan and Lucas gave Pembroke’s defence a headache by running straight and fast, gaining valuable yards. Evan and William linked up well and with some great passing, released George and Ollie into space. Madoc again worked hard in the 10 position, his quick-thinking kept the ball alive and the quick ball was just too much for the visitors.
The match ended 13-2 to Tenby.
Once again another excellent team effort from the Swifts; however the day went to man of the match Iestyn Barrellie, whose quickness and strength in the breakdowns made sure that Tenby never lost the ball; he is slowly becoming a solid forward player for tThe Swifts.
Try scorers: George Mc (4), Logan (3), Ethan L (2), Jayden (1), Ollie (1), Evan (1) and Madoc (1).
