Last week proved a huge week for the Under 10s, with a midweek match against old rivals Neyland, followed by their rugby festival on the Sunday.
Going into the Neyland game, Tenby were determined to perform well and build momentum to take them into the Under 10s tournament.
The game, as expected, saw two strong sides battle fiercely from the first whistle. But Tenby kept their heads and showed outstanding teamwork to come away with a 45-40 win.
Tries on the night were scored by Connor (4), Alex, Alfie (2), Jayden and Rocco.
Coming off this big win for the Seasiders, they travelled away on Sunday to Milford to take part in the Under 10s festival. Having missed out in previous seasons by as little as one try, Tenby were a team determined to show what they could do and put in the performances needed to take them to finals.
With Whitland pulling out of the competition, the Seasiders were set to face Pembroke, Pembroke Dock Quins, Haverfordwest and Milford in their group.
The opening game saw Tenby take on Pembroke. With the first game proving a hurdle in previous seasons, it was important for the team to start well. They came out playing the rugby their supporters have come to love watching, running the ball and causing Pembroke to spend large parts of the game defending. Tenby applied the pressure and this was rewarded with tries for Alfie (2) and Connor, leaving the score at the final whistle at 15-0 to Tenby.
With the gain of a first win came a confidence boost for the team and this carried them into their next game against Pembroke Dock Quins. It was here that the Seasiders really turned on the performance. The forwards’ work-rate forced the Quins into a number of mistakes and allowed possession for the majority of the game to be in the hands of the Seasiders. Some lovely running angles and quick hands led to Tenby crossing the line seven times and close the second game of the day with a 35-0 win.
Tries were scored in this game by Alfie (2), Jack (2), Owen, Rowen and Connor.
Tenby’s next opposition was Haverfordwest, a team who had last year knocked them out of contention of qualifying. But the Seasiders were showing fantastic teamwork, communicating well and all knowing their roles on the pitch.
Haverfordwest proved a strong team, though, and possession regularly changed hands between the two sides. It would be Tenby’s work-rate in the tackle and breakdown that would eventually give them the edge and see them cross the line four times to Haverfordwest’s one.
Final score was 20-5 to the Seasiders, with tries scored by Connor (2), Lewis and Alfie.
Tenby were unbeaten and were to go into the final game having only let one try in against them, showing that their defence was as strong as their attack.
The final and last game of the day was against home side Milford, who had also gone unbeaten in their first three games. This was a game that was going to show who, when under pressure, could stay in control the best.
Tenby scored early on with a try by Connor, but Milford applied a lot of pressure and ran the ball at every opportunity. On a number of occasions, it looked at though Milford were going to get their equaliser, but some huge try-saving tackles from Jack, Louie and Rhys saw the Seasiders achieving their dream of going to the finals with a 5-0 win in this game.
Every player gave their all on the pitch and they deserved the celebrations that followed. Big thanks from all players and supporters goes to Darren and Christian whose time and development of this team has enabled the Under 10s to finally experience Finals Day. Thank you and well done Under 10s.
After the success of the previous weekend and making it to Finals Day, Tenby Under 10s travelled to St. Clears to take part in a festival of rugby. Tenby were to play four teams, Morriston, Fishguard, Nantgaredig and Pontypridd.
Tenby played some fantastic rugby and played in the spirit of the festival. They won their first game against Morriston 20-10, with tries coming from Rowan, Jayden, Connor and Alfie. Next they played Fishguard and came out winners 15-10, with tries for Alfie (2) and Jayden.
By the third game, Tenby were playing lovely flowing rugby and came away with a 30-0 win against Nantgaredig. Final game for the Seasiders was against Pontypridd, a tough game which saw the Seasiders take a loss 5-0.
Coaches and supporters were all very proud of the way the players conducted themselves in a physical game.
Tenby Under 7s
Tenby Swifts Under 7s took part in the St. Clears festival on Sunday. They played great forward-thinking rugby against all the teams they faced, coming away with four convincing wins and winning their pool.
The passing between the boys to get over the try line was so impressive. They played their socks off, a pleasure to watch. The coaches couldn’t choose a man of the match as it was a huge team effort, so the whole team received it.
Team: Ollie Toy, Dexter Cromwell, Dewi Harland, Max Howells, Iori O’Rouke, Archie Noyce, Kyan Smith, Iestyn Cole, Rhodri Rogers and Ethan Thomas.
Scores were: Tenby 5 Laugharne 4 (Ollie, 2, Iori, Dewi, Rhodri); Tenby 6 Pontypridd 4 (Ollie, 2, Iori, Dexter, Archie, Dewi); Tenby 4 Pembroke 2 (Archie, 2, Iori, 2); Tenby 7 St. Clears 2 (Rhodri, 2, Max, 2, Iori, Dexter, Archie).
UNDER 8s
On Sunday afternoon, Tenby Swifts Under 8s travelled to St. Clears for their last tournament of the season. The boys all played very well, with great passing, tagging and supporting each other.
We are nearly at the end of the season and at the end of tag rugby, think it’s safe to say that these boys are more than ready for their first season in contact.
A huge thank to the coaches, Nick Guymer and Jimmy Davies, for all their hard work this season and as usual the fantastic support of all the parents. Thank you.
Tenby’s Under 8s team who travelled to St. Clears on Sunday: Charlie, Jenson, Sonny, Harry, Jack, Callum, Ollie, Cian and Aidan. Well done boys.
UNDER 11s
Tenby Under 11s finished their season at a festival hosted by St. Clears Rugby Club.
Tenby were pitted in a pool against four other teams, Carmarthen Athletic being their first opponents. Tenby had a slow start and it seemed to take some time for the team to get going. Carmarthen took full advantage of this, scoring two tries. Tenby managed to pull one back, but it was to little to late for the 10-minute match, finishing Tenby 1 Carmarthen Athletic 2.
The second match saw Tenby battle against a very organised and impressive Pontypridd team. Although Tenby fought well, they were unable to break through the opposition defence and the final score rested at Tenby 0 Pontypridd 4.
Tenby were next to face the host team St. Clears. Both teams fought well and a very respective 1-1 draw met the final whistle.
Finally, the penultimate match saw the Swifts meet neighbours Narberth. Again, both teams battled well and were even at 1-1. Tenby were unlucky as a ‘try’ by Cody, which was disallowed, would have given the Swifts the win. However, the score remained at 1-1 for Tenby’s second draw of the tournament.
Tries for each match were scored by Eddie.
Team: Rhys E, Zak, Tom, Cody, Iwan, Eddie, Keaton, Deri, Rhydian, Ieuan, Rhys S and George.
Under 12s
Last weekend saw Tenby Swifts Under 12s travel east into Carmarthenshire to play in an end of season 10-a-side tournament in St Clears.
The young Seasiders eased through their group, playing some fantastic rugby and beating Newcastle Emlyn five tries to nil, Morriston seven tries to nil and Carmarthen Quins seven tries to one.
In the semi-final, they saw off Carmarthen Athletic in a tough game by four tries to one, which set up a final against Carmarthen Quins who they had played earlier in the group stages.
It proved to be a hard fought contest, with the Swifts leading by a slender one try to nil at half-time, but in the second half they raised their game with some fine defence and great handling to score a further three tries to make the final score four tries to nil and run out as tournament winners.
All the squad played some excellent rugby on the day, and are seen pictured above after receiving their winners medals.
Team made up of Will, Tom, Tristan, Cairan, Iori B, Joe, Iorri R, Max H, Cameron, Max J, Miller, Jake, Fletcher, Archie, Dylan and Duane-Lee.
