Pembroke’s First XV travelled to Haverfordwest hoping to cause an upset.

The home side’s backs and forwards started very purposefully opening their account after six minutes, and continued to dominate during the half, with their players eager to support the ball carriers, which allowed them to score three more, well worked tries, all of which were triggered by their speedy backrow who was outstanding throughout the match.

The visitors did mount a number of visits to the home red zone, but failed to retain possession and missed really good opportunities to get themselves back into contention.

However, Pembroke did score one well constructed try after thirty minutes, but ended the half 26-5 down.

The second half saw the visitors pressure the home side on numerous occasions, but fail to penetrate a determined defence.

The home side continued to build territory with very good handling and close support, which saw them score two tries as well as being awarded a penalty try, without reply, giving them a well deserved win by 47-5.

The Panthers and Youth weren’t in action. The U14s were the only junior game of the weekend away at Tenby in their Plate semi-final. In a very entertaining game, Tenby’s bigger side took a commanding lead in the first half.

The Pembroke lads dug in and came back strongly scoring some very good tries to get them back to 24-17, but simple, tactical mistakes cost them dear and Tenby took their chances very well to score three late tries to claim a deserved win and a place at Finals Day.

Upcoming fixtures include, First XV play Laugharne at home this Friday night KO 7pm, then they take on Aberaeron at home on Wednesday March 20, KO 7pm in the Pembs KO Cup semi-final.

Having not played for a few weeks, the Panthers are very eager to play Morriston at home on Sunday next, KO 2.30pm in the quarter final of the WRU National Bowl.

The youth will play Aberystwyth away on Saturday in an early kick off, with a chance to claim the League title; in the weeks ahead they are due to play Narberth in the semi-final of the District Youth Cup. All of the junior age groups will be in action on Sunday.
